That's a great story. You did the right thing.

What on Earth can you gain from going to camp if you don't have time for the regular practices?
Does anyone gain anything from a camp apart from maybe overtraining?
This! In fact, the thought of running camp seems ridiculous at all, unless it's a place for the coach to feel up team members and overtrain the hell out of them. Run on your own, win some 5K and 10Ks in the area, get fast and keep working hard. Coach is a douche, as are most HS coaches.

NAME YOUR SCHOOL AND COACH. OH, I CAN'T DO THAT. GO AWAY SHILL.
You hurt my feelings with this. I would rather run. My parents made me get a job. I went to practice when I could, which was 3. Practice was Tuesday, Thursday, Saturdays. I only wanted to talk to the principal because I talked to the coach and he didn't seem to care. It's not my fault my parents made me work. I wanted to run more but I worked 8 hour shifts and was really tired after or it was late and my parents wouldn't let me run. I don't want to quit but felt like it after all this. Thanks for the possitive replies. To you above you're a jerk.
You're too tired to run from 8 hour shifts? I've trained for marathons, often exceeding 80 mpw, while working a lot more than 8 hours a day. 8 hour work days would feel like a VACATION to me!
"Distance to Sprints" you are either a 8/10 troll or the stupid coach in human history. I have no idea which. This is a very short list of some of your more egregious offenses against the sport:1) Your duty as a coach is to win by having the fastest runners race as fast as possible. Not to stroke your own fragile ego by deciding varsity status based on who flatters you the most. 2) The #3 girl probably didn't go to your camp because her parents think you're a total creep. 3) You are clearly encouraging a toxic culture by playing the popular "captain" and her clique against the less popular "choir girl" 4) The fact that you chose to ambush #3 with a public humiliation for no reason is indicative of larger psychological issues.5) Where I'm from, singing the national anthem is a great honor. I wish I had an athlete that would sing it at meets, so we wouldn't have to rely on sh!tty recordings. 6) The practice before a meet isn't that important. Do you know what tapering is? 7) You brag about finishing 3rd in regions and 19th in state. Surely you realize: A) You would have done better if you had your #3 runner scoring points instead of your #6. B) 3rd and 19th is nothing to brag about. C) Few states even allow top 3 teams in a region to go to state. What's the point? The 3rd place team at regions has no chance of winning state. D) Few states have 19+ teams at State. Mine has 16 and top 56 individuals if they aren't on a qualifying team. Most coaches want to change it to 8 teams +120. In conclusion, you are saying "participation matters more than results" and undermining the ability of your team to win. You might not like winning, but then you have zero business coaching. Why would you come on LRC to brag about your Hobby Jogger mentality?
