It's just the camp! Just keep running and then reclaim your spot as #2 at the first race.

Work is for suckers.

You can't quit, because you haven't been running.
I've been running, just not with the team. The three practices I made were when I had the day off. I asked for the day off for the team trial but my boss didn't give it to me.

Could go up depending on the quality and quantity of replies.
The part about making it to 3 practices is where this dude went wrong with his trolling.
The part with "Should I have my parents talk to the principal?" was where it became too much for me. May as well have written "I AM A TROLL!"
If you were worthwhile, you would be able to make top 7 on pure talent alone.

I hope he's killing it at work, since he sure isn't killing it here or at x-country.
The awards at meets are based upon results on one given race, not on what led up to your race. If you worked, got injured or we're sick makes no difference in the final tally. Let's move forward and say you win your conference meet and the first place award is given to an individual who finished behind you because of what he or she had to go through prior to the race (injuries, work or death in the family). Although you would feel sorry for them receiving a award wouldn't be right. Man up and accept that the coach awarded the top seven with being in the top seven.
Unless I'm mistaken.....it's high school. Good on you for your work ethic. Coach sounds like a dick. In most states he wouldn't be allowed to have summer practices. Be thankful you don't have to spend an entire week with him.

I was #3 on the team last year and the #2 returner. I had a job this summer and didn't get in the running I wanted but will be one of the best. I had to work and couldn't make our time trial. My stupid HS coach decides to only take the top 7 finishers from the time trial from camp. He said I missed all summer training (not true I made three practices) and missed the time trial so I can't go.
Should I have my parents talk to the principal? Should I quit?
This past summer, I had to miss almost the entire preseason because of church activities, other camps, and vacation. I kept in contact with my coach, who gave me mileage targets and occasionally some light workouts since it was preseason. I did all of that on my own and was going to miss my time trial for our team camp, where 20 go. I'm probably number 6 or 7 on the team so if I couldn't go because of the time trial being on an inconvenient date, I would be quite upset. So I asked my coach if he would still let me go and he told me very firmly that it wouldn't be fair to let me go if I didn't earn it.
TLDR; Had a sorta similar situation and I kept in contact with my coach who told me that if I didn't run the time trial, I can't go to camp. Period.
I think you need to chill out a little. Your coach is only doing what's fair to the rest of your teammates. No matter how good you are, you don't deserve special treatment.

Concur with all the above. Decent job, OP. You show promise.
Should I quit?
You've got nowhere else to go.
Sick troll. You suck.
Coach should have his ass kicked for discouraging a kid from working during the summer. Camp can't be worth much so I wouldn't worry about it. Just get ready for the season and good for you for at least dipping your toes in the real world. Hey, HS coaches, you and your activities, especially in the summer, aren't very important. Idiots.
Sounds like the camp is a privilege which you haven't earned. Put in the work and you get rewarded, which you haven't done
Yes, quit trolling.

Not trolling. Though it is strange he is only taking the girls team. I heard the only shower at camp is a garden hose too. What a waird coach!
Give Mike Rossi a call. He'll write a letter to the principal and create social media shame. Start packing your bags. You're going to camp.
You should have Strava or garmin and photo/video proof that you ran the races in the times that you claim otherwise Derek Murphy is going to expose you.
+1
