Really? What was your first clue? I mean, the majority of the "American" representatives are actually Africans...errr....naturalized citizens.

If American middle distance is dead, getting Gold at 1500m in Rio is a good way to go....
When you're not gonna make and you know it, you don't care if you're last. He gave up.

Ok, I don't usually comment on threads like this. I shouldn't even read them, but your comment takes the cake. I need to ask WTF are you talking about?
2011 WC 1500 3rd
2012 Olympics 1500 4th
2013 WC 1500 2nd
2105 WC 1500 8th --- ok there's a poor one
2016 World indoor 1500 1st
2016 Olympics 1500 1st
That does not look like "always had trouble in big time races" to me.
Clearly, this is a poor result, but he's also clearly been struggling most of this year. He had one good result earlier in the year running 3:33, but he's not. been sharp since.
Devastated is right!!! What a big surprise... Glad I didn't pick him in the prediction contest. Then again I picked Kwemoi and he looked bad too, although he did make it through on a time qualifier. We'll see.

I don't know man. Dudes had some pretty good last hundreds. This just looks like he was trying to kick to 5th or 6th and it got a little too close. Guy behind him still qualified.

Props to him for not taking the NBC post race interview "bait", which tried to set him up by offering excuses for him. He essentially just said it has been a tough year and left it at that.
Also, credit to him for agreeing to the interview. He was disappointed and likely embarrassed and could have declined.
I agree. Very classy response from Centro.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation told me that he has done nearly nothing in the last 10 days due to injury. Said he was surprised Centro even decided to race.
Knowing that makes his post-race interview that much more impressive. More humility than many on this board give him credit for.
Let him rest, recover that hamstring and move him up to the 5k and see how he does. I still believe hid OG was a fluke and nothing will make me change my mind, especially after the Olympics.
nobody cares about indoor, the 2016 olympics was a choke on everyone else's part, and the rest are pathetic finishes for a guy who is extremely tallented/doped to the gil;s

he didn't give excuses bcause he knows that hell catch heat for it if he does. called reverse psychologie folks, maybe try it some time? this guy is all about his image and drawing atention to himself when hes on top or the world, but as soon as the going gets tough his weird tatoos go back behind the shirt where they belong. maybe the turkish 400 champion can teach him a lesson in grit and turn him into a lunch pale guy.

Yeah, look at Centro's medal record on the international stage. Always had trouble, huh? Yep, today he did, but try these on for size:
Olympic Games:
Gold medal – FIRST place 2016 Rio de Janeiro 1500 m
World Outdoor Championships:
Silver medal – SECOND place 2013 Moscow 1500 m
Bronze medal – THIRD place 2011 Daegu 1500 m
World Indoor Championships:
Gold medal – FIRST place 2016 Portland 1500 m
Pan American Junior Championships:
Gold medal – first place 2007 São Paulo 1500 m
