Monkey see, monkey do. Once the booing starts it continues to the point alotta people don't know why exactly they are booing. And the British hate anyone with nice teeth.

Because Gatlin has the temerity to challenge Bolt. The British media, especially the BBC commentators, treat Bolt as some sort of semi divine being who can do no wrong. No mention is ever made of the lax testing procedures in Bolt's island home!
Also, it is easier to shift the whole drugs problem onto the shoulders of one man -Gatlin - instead of facing up to the serious problem that the sport as a whole faces.
This does not, however, prevent certain members of the BBC commentary team working as paid ambassadors for the company that gave Gatlin a contract a few years ago!!
If it wasn't for our slave trade ships you would be rubbish at sprinting so show some gratitude.

When watching a replay of the men's 100 final today I noticed Justin Gatlin was booed coming out of the tunnel while Yohan Blake received a loud applause. Yeah Gatlin was busted in the past but Blake also served a drug ban too. Is there some reason i'm missing to let Blake slide? The whole crowd just came off as a bunch of hypocrites to me. Best guess is that the British press never even mentions Blake's suspension.
If you really have to boo, boo them all.
Look Mo received a knighthood, that says it all.
Yes as he's Bolts real rival since tyson gay and mentally is not a I'm happy to be here type of guy.
As I Said elsewhere he has a certain way about him that the eliteism of the BBC dont like
Agree BBC want to paint Bolt as greatest ever athlete over any distance./ event. Now this may be true but it is open to debate as opposed to being a absolute truth...there are others who figure in the debate. Bubka, Carl Lewis, Zatopek, etc
They just don't like the look of Gatlin....and dislike that type of American black man. Gatlin reminds me more of a Nfl athlete than most other sprinters.
I like Gatlin but the BBC dont as they like athletes to all be happy to be there or all singing and smiling superstars
They probably would not like makwala much if he won either as hes got a certain swagger about him.
It's been a while, but as I recall Gatlin had some trouble showing remorse. He could have shown a bit more tact in calming things down but instead would just become inflamed which burned down his image.
No they don't like cheaters. Makwala is fine

Because Blake was cleared by WADA, the ban was enforced to set an example/ as a deterrent/as a sacrifice. Was pre everyone getting popped for Jackd3D.
He was 'cleared' by the jamaican org, because the drug he was using wasn't on the banned list.
(JADCO) cleared him of a doping infraction on the grounds that the drug was not on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list. However, JADCO appealed their own panel's ruling, stating that the athlete should be disciplined as the drug was similar in structure to the banned substance tuaminoheptane.[21] As the panel would resolve the issue after the World Championships, the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association took the precaution of withdrawing Blake from the relay race.[22] The appeals tribunal decided that a ban would be appropriate, and Blake and the three other sprinters each received a three-month ban from competition.[23]
Not hard to google. He was banned
JADCO is also complicit. He should have got 2 years but he was part of the Bolt show. Its always been part of the game to find a drug that wasn't on the list, but that loophole has been closed for years.

Gatlin is not a likeable guy. end of thread.

He has consistently denied any fault with regards to his doping ban, so showing remorse wouldn't exactly make sense. Besides that, it's pretty obvious that he is a fighter. A polite and well spoken fighter, but still a fighter.
Americans don't have a monopoly on stupidity or hypocrisy.

Regardless, could there be some agreement then that Gatlin's uniquely blown out of proportion bad-guy image has been a result of his PR tactics?

I never cared for Gatlin either, but the interview right after his win was one of the better, more humble ones I have ever heard. Helped change my opinion of him somewhat, giving credit to others outside himself (and not in the typical / hypocritical 'God let me be great' way).

And Bolt was ever humble? Ever?
There are 60000 people in the stadium. Most of them are casuals who couldn't name more than a dozen athletes at the Championship. They watch the BBC propaganda on Gatlin and play along. If you haven't seen the BBC virtue signalling over Gatlin it's f*cking pantomime stuff. So bad that MJ was forced to stick up for a drug cheat. Embarrassing for all concerned, the BBC, the fans, Gatlin, and the sport.

Maybe. I look at Tyson Gay, who did go with the "remorseful" approach, and I don't recall him ever being booed or villified. But then, he never got back to the top the way Gatlin has, either. On some level, I think people just object to the fact that Gatlin had the audacity to not only come back from his ban, but come back stronger than he was before. If he had come back as a third-place in the US; doesn't make the world final type of guy, nobody would care much regardless of his PR approach.

Finally someone provided the right answer.
Americans are really vulgar idiots when it comes to sports. Crowds chanting USA, USA, USA like a bunch of inbred idiots just isn't likeable.
British fans like an underdog and seeing a small island like Jamaica wipe the floor with your sprinters whilst you have whined and whined over they years has been a joy to watch. Having that spoiled by a two time drug brash drug cheat, in what is seen as the main event of the championship, by a man who miraculously gets faster as he gets older than he ever was with steroids isn't going to go down well.
As previously stated Dwain Chambers was also booed by British crowds and the BBC made a scape goat of him much worse than they have with Gatlin.

No matter how much someone lifts, getting big guns has everything to do with genetics. If he were not a high responder, all the steroids in the world wouldn't give him big muscles. Big muscles is a genetic indicator, nothing more.
