Bekele will not hold any of the world records after they wipe out all records prior to 2005. It may not happen, but I'll bet it will happen within the next year.

Nobody cares who the prior world record holder was. It's just a factoid once the record is eclipsed, which all records will inevitably be.

Bekele's 10,000 record was set in 2005.
The fastest since that was Bekele in 2008.
The fastest since that was Bekele in 2011.
Wipe out all times before 2012 and Rupp will be the world record holder.
That would be the "clean" record.
Without looking who was the 5k champ in 2003?
It's Kipchoge. Was this a serious question? That's like everyone's favorite race here.
He got more gold than both of them doe
Several years ago, Athletics Weekly published rankings of best performers at each event based on factors such as global titles, number of years as world record holder and number of world number 1 rankings. Can anyone find a copy or apply up to date rankings?
About 10 years ago they used the same method to try to determine the best overall distance runners, taking into account big city marathon performances and world cross. Bekele came top followed by Nurmi then Gebrselassie.
I suspect Bekele would still be top of overall distance runners but Farah may well head the 10k rankings.
Of all the athletes in running for 'GOAT', Farah is my least favorite by far. The fact that he's never run close to any of the WRs, his climb to world's greatest from near obscurity, the whole 'Mobot' thing... he's 16 on the all-time 10k list! There are 15 other runners who have run faster than the 'GOAT'!?
Farah's quick climb to the top is one of the biggest reasons I have lost interest in following competitive running.
Someone asked at the beginning of the year what it was going to take for someone to beat Mo in a global championship. I responded something along the lines of "the passage of time until 2018 when he is done with track".
Had no expectations for him to lose either the 10000m or 5000m in his swan song year, at home no less. He'll win the 5000m here in a couple of days and people will bring this back up.
But even after he wins the 5000m, he has not eclipsed Bekele. He's one of the all-time distance greats, but he is not the GOAT.
Chicago Marathon champ. All hail Mo.
Mo is going to be the greatest marathoner of all time.
