The Brits are pretty good at Paralympics.
At regular track and field they are not.
The Brits like hometown winners.

@rojo
Side note: how sweet is the Olympic Channel? Been great to be able to watch Paralympic Champs, all of FINA, ITU again.
You in town for IAAF Worlds? Gonna meet up with us at the bar to watch? LMK.
Because there are so many categories that almost every participant is a winner.
winner winner chicken dinner

I also have no issue with there being a Paralympics/Para Worlds, etc. I think it's great. But what makes me want to scrap the whole thing is when these "athletes" (and yes, they are almost always British) complain loudly that they aren't getting as much attention/funding/sponsorship/etc as able bodied athletes. Are you fing kidding me?!? They should count their lucky stars that you have ANYTHING! Because what they do have is way more than they deserve; so much of it is pure charity.
...Then again, so many "pro" track and field athletes rely on charity, I guess these Para athletes are just following suit.
Well we Americans have not succumbed to that con job as we largely ignore Paralympians. Good for us!

To be fair, what normally happens is that one person makes a comment that they feel that they're not respected as much as they should and then howling numpties extrapolate from that, that all paralympic athletes are demanding more money and basically all the stuff you put in your rant.
It's the same every time a woman makes any sort of comment about the state of women's sport. They're generally not demanding anything or expecting anything, it's just all it takes to get the hard of thinking all hot under the collar.
Just in case someone stumbles upon this and takes it as fact - this is utter bollox.
The UK loves sport and para-sports are good viewing. Nothing more, nothing less.
I can only assume Monkey Magic is pissed because penile-disfunction isn't a category recognised by the IOC.

Caster would win this one.
I don't think its anything more complicated than the fact that we fund the athletes relatively well so, consequently, win a lot.

Americans don't even care enough about the less fortunate to have national health care like every civilized country in the world. No chance they would fund sport for the non-able-bodied.

In fairness, they are the first country to vote in a leader with obvious mental handicaps.
You got me. I'm stumped.
I have said before that we Brits are world champs at spectating. Cricket, soccer, Rugby (both codes) etc etc. we watch in greater numbers than almost anywhere else on the planet when it comes to international competition.
Plus, we love to see Brits win! Because of large scale investment in paralympic sports (some of the equipment used is mind blowingly expensive!) we always hoover up lots of medals at these events.
Plus, some of the racing is genuinely exciting - although I agree with some posters thatthe fields in some categories for some events does tend to mean that if you compete you are almost certain to medal.

Call it "utter bollox", make a brief, very general point, ignore every issue, throw in ad hominem.
Great discussion! Thanks!

There is nothing to discuss.
You think the millions of TV viewers and the hundreds of thousands of spectators passionately cheering the events are doing it because they are "ignorant" and not because they love sport and enjoy the competition.
Your beliefs are arrogant, patronising and wrong.
End of thread.
