I used to be that good at around his age and I carried on like a dickhead too.
What became of me?, nothing much, all I am now is a LR troll who's not even game to register, good luck young Jakob, a whole new world could be awaiting you.

I love it. He's trying to get the crowd into it. Trying to make the game more interesting. I don't even see it as all that cocky. He looks like he's just having fun.

He is, but I bet the young fellas just behind him aren't, or have much respect for him. Seen it all before dozens of times before and not just from young fellas, there will be a humbling experience of some sort just around the corner and most people will just think and some say 'well feck you smart arse deal with it cos I'm not interested'. Anyway, good luck to him.
It's the MAGA phenom (Make Attitudes Great Again), the best promotion technique known to mankind, suppressed for two generations during the feminist equality revolution - just look at all the free PR he gets here!
(Rock bands learned long ago that there's no such thing as bad PR, that's why they throw television sets out of hotel windows - free publicity!)
How many times did Jim Ryun do something like that?
Marty Liquori
Mo Farah
Dave Wottle
even Steve Prefontaine!!!
I don't know but I sure would not make that kind of think a habit.

So build 'em up then tear 'em down, great. Come back here when that humbling event just around the corner happens. Wonder as a young fella how he'll handle it all. But good luck to him.
Lol you guys are just jealous he destroys you all, but that's okay. Running a 3:56 mile, 13:49 5k, and 8:26 3k steeple (oh btw that's what Evan jager, silver medalist, ran for his first steeple) is something to be proud of, mates. He's just doing it his way and having fun.
In the interview afterwards, he said he just wanted to cheer people up, which seems like a clumsy way to say he wanted to get the audience going and stuff. Perhaps not something his competitors appreciated since he was basically jogging past them as he did it, but I don't see it as any kind of bad attitude.

No Farah did almost the exact same thing, flashing a MoBot at the top of the homestretch in the heats of the British Championships 1500m in 2012. He was so thoroughly blasted for it that he didn't even run the final.
Personally I don't see the problem. Especially in this case - it's the EUROPEAN UNDER 20 championships and the guy is so clearly head and shoulders above the rest. I hope he pulls off the triple - 1500/3K SC/5000.
Even Eamonn Coghlan did something like this in the 1987 World Champs winning the 5000m. He pumped his fist before he even passed the Russian (?) leader then sprinted clear and won handily. Entertaining.

he's surely also taking a cue from Bolt
Not what I would want to see, but I can't blame him.
Bolt and Val Adams are the only 2 athletes I can remember that dominated junior levels and the same at senior. Though in Bolt's case it was a 5 year gap.
Felix, Kirania James, Sally Pearson, Bekele, Isinbeyava.
Sure, lots of athletes burn out. But there are a lot of stars that were good as juniors.

He needs to stay grounded and remember how much further he has to go. This is the act of "I made it." All the grates of sport had insane focus, crazy drive and insatiable work ethic. I know his brothers have been saying he's the best of the family for years but if he acts like he's made it and now now he's top dog, the complacency will hold him back from the top ranks and he'll be shaking his head wondering how "the can't miss kid" ended up here eight years later. The one blessing for him is that while the lord is bountiful in his gifts, he is also not shy in giving lessons when lessons are needed. I'm praying Jakob keeps his head on because he has all the promise in the world.
Doing things like running that DL race a few weeks ago and going to the senior World Championships should keep him grounded just fine, and show him that he still has a ways to go.
If his brothers don't do that training every day already, though, which I'm pretty sure they do judging by the dynamic in that family. They're obviously proud of him and have said he's better than they were at that age, but they're super competitive too.

Really a dangerous attitude for this young phenom to have. I don't blame him, but it disappoints me. Semis of U20 euros:

It's to impress the girls on Facebook and Instagram.
You guys mocked me when I said that the resurgence of white distance running was due to social media, but it's partly true.
That showboating was a bit much though. He needs to watch some old Steve Ovett classics on YouTube to see how it's done in a respectful manner.
Oh look, LRC has turned on him. That didn't take long.
You guys are unbelievable, let the kid have his fun.
He shook their hands after the race after all.
I noticed this kid was an arrogant show off long time ago. Take a look at his Instagram.
You were never that good tho.

It is so stupid to brag. You can loose it all in a second- god forbids an injury, a sickness, not coming in first place....
And now, my son, understand and observe that whoever feels that he is greater than others is rebelling against the Kingship of Hashem, because he is adorning himself with His garments, as it is written (Tehillim 93:1), "Hashem reigns, He wears clothes of pride." Why should one feel proud? Is it because of wealth? Hashem makes one poor or rich (I Shmuel 2:7). Is it because of honor? It belongs to Hashem, as we read (I Divrei Hayamim 29:12), "Wealth and honor come from You." So how could one adorn himself with Hashem's honor? And one who is proud of his wisdom surely knows that Hashem "takes away the speech of assured men and reasoning from the sages" (Iyov 12:20)!? So we see that everyone is the same before Hashem, since with His anger He lowers the proud and when He wishes He raises the low. So lower yourself and Hashem will lift you up!
He's reflecting the celebration habit of the professionals. Kids just do whatever adults show them as an example.
You all just jelly that you will never be confident in your ability to win a race that you start celebrating 100m before the finish.
Long distance runners don't do things like that. Only cocky sprinters
