The weather is so unpredictable in Chicago that time of year maybe that's part of the reason they bailed on trying to be a "fast" course. No use paying to rabbit a world record 1st half if it might be 78F, sunny, with half the course into a headwind (or possibly 38F and rainy). Berlin, Paris, etc are more predictable.
Hope it's cool, calm, and dry and someone helps Rupp to a fast one. Would like to see what he can do. (Yes, i'm trying my best to ignore all the back and forth about NOP doping, whether it's true or false, in order to try to enjoy it. Ignorance is bliss.)
Galen Rupp & Jordan Hasay to Headline 2017 Chicago Marathon

If the rabbits came back to Chicago, Rupp would not run there. He goes there because there are no rabbits so he can run his 2:08-2:10. Don't forget, he's a Farah's lookalike. They don't like to run fast, and honestly they can't.

Why does everybody keep mentioning Paris? Paris is not that fast.

I think saying that they can't is silly. We've seen both of them run decently fast at some various distances. Farah doesn't go for world records like everyone wants him to, but this isn't the Bekele era anymore either. Obviously he wouldn't run as fast as bekele. And if they can do a better job of winnning in slower races, then why wouldn't they? -

Why are the two fastest male American runners also on the leaked Fancy Bears list of runners with atypical ABP results???

Is there a correlation?
It is probably just a coincidence.
OK??? -

What are Americnas? -
Yes! I'll be there racing too - I gotta try and get a picture with them and grab some NOP gear for the race.

Why isn't Ritz in that field? You wonder whether nik-e pulled some crap to keep Ritz out of the race?

Because he's a liability, never healthy and will drop out half way.

i wish they would rotate each of the majors each year between rabbited and not. Something like this.
Even years:
Rabbit: Tokyo, Boston, Chicago
Non-Rabbit: London, Berlin, NYC
Odd years:
Rabbit: London, Berlin, NYC
Non-Rabbit: Tokyo, Boston, Chicago
That would ensure that there are options in both spring and fall (multiple in fall because of 4 majors vs 2 in spring) for athletes who want to pick their style, while at the same time not limiting themselves to certain courses. Plus with this structure there is always 1 rabbited major in the US every year. -
One of the best marathon duels of all time was waged on a very warm day in Chicago with pacers (2010).
The warm weather did not prevent a fast time.
The pacers did not prevent an amazing race to the finish. -

One could say there are already enough time trial marathons.
Rotterdam, Paris, Frankfurt are all great places to pick up a PB on a flat, fast course and a good place to go as an elite USA marathoner if you want a great PB. That's not even mentioning London, Berlin, and Tokyo as amazing opportunities for pacers to set up the premier time trials.
Real racing is much more interesting -- Chicago and Boston are so much fun to watch because anything can happen the last 10K.
I agree with this post. I wish more track races would ditch pacers too.
I can hardly believe it when people make this claim. Would you really rather watch Boston and Chicago than London and Berlin? I'd pick the latter two and it's not close. Rabbiting does not prevent "real racing", it makes the times fast (which is cool), and it makes the big boys actually show up. -
Wonder if l-carnitine infusions are available in Chicago. Dr Brown could always fly there.
-
It is not compelling when 2:04-2:05 guys run 2:10-2:12 when the conditions are perfect for fast times.

Nobody cares about 2 doper

Ritz needs to be done with the marathon, unless he wants to take a shot in 2020. He's a great 10k-HM road and XC racer. -
I think too Americans get paid above market value in appearance fees for running the American majors. Rupp would get paid less to run Berlin, though I think he'd run an impressive PR there. The Chicago Marathon is to World Marathon Majors as MLS is to professional soccer - the top Americans like Bradley, Altidore, and Dempsey get paid a ton more to play in MLS than they were getting paid in the world's best leagues.
