It matters not at this point. Cheserek never achieved what was expected after college. A phenomenal runner on every level yet he seemingly abandoned the track and focused on road racing. Turning 31 on 2/2/25, one would expect track efforts are behind him. I don't know anyone who is concerned about his citizenship at this stage.
very very few people have run 3:33 and run 2:05 anything for the marathon or 59.11 for the half, and 17 NCAA titlea, if any, doesnt matter how ..or 13:04 when that was great not good
This is one of the great mysteries in running. Cheserek has been here 15 years and is said to have applied for a green card back in high school already; he won 17 titles for Nike University, not including team titles; and he destroyed numerous future Olympians in the process, before running 3:49 indoors and now crushing what would be American records for legal courses at both half marathon and marathon, despite being injured much of his pro career. If there were an actual investigative journalist around here, maybe they could find out.
if he just goes to Mexico he can then proceed (run or walk) across the open border and get full benefits of citizenship, including free phone hotel room gift cards and more
At this point in his life, Cheserek has lived longer in U.S. than anywhere else, I believe, certainly longer than the illegals Dems would waive into citizenship.
That’s not how citizenship works. He won’t ever make a world or Olympic team while representing Kenya. only chance he has to become an American is joining the military-full stop.

Did Ken Goe never look into this? I’m not sure how deeply he was able to investigate the mysterious ways of Nike but it sure seems there’s a story here. No Nike contract and seemingly stalled citizenship application. It’s curious.

31? He was at least 19 when he competed as a HS soph. It was ridiculous.
Ches is Kenyan-his marathon time puts him in probably 20th place in his own country. He did have a monster race but Kenya is a different animal. He will never make a world or Olympic team running for Kenya. The competition is too stiff

This is how many/most have done it. He still can.
Alan
Not necessarily. They used to have a program for Kenyans because of the need for Swahili speakers. Not anymore, according to ADP anyways.

Here are links to two old Ken Goe articles, in both of which he alludes to the saga, but with no details. It says he was in the process of getting it in 2017. Also, it gives the excuse of a tight hamstring for his losing his last ncaa xc race, where he was third.
