In the case of most large professional sports corporations (or any type of corporation, for that matter), it's about one thing: making as much money as possible by whatever means they can succeed at this. Of course, this means getting the required results out of their athletes to generate maximum revenue. Nothing else really matters as far as the employer is concerned. That's capitalism. If you want to be employed by said owner, you must play by their rules at your own peril. I believe they factor in the possibilities of being sued, fined, or otherwise penalized for doing things that are not necessarily considered ethical or safe for the athletes, and based on the financial risk vs. reward, make their decisions. This is the world we live in, like it or not.
