Not at all. If you aren't upset that you didn't hit your goal then you didn't work hard enough to achieve it.

I've run 33 marathons and probably 2/3 of them were busts. You run a pr and you're pissed? I was happy with a one minute pr.
The only situation I can imagine is that it was just your second marathon, and you hadn't trained for your first and trained like a madman for your second.
wow, 2/3? I'd quit and run another distance. I mean, once you run a few marathons and you get the gist of it, there should be no room for messing up that much.

Yeah sorry, I didn't think it was important.

Sounds like you missed by less than 2 minutes. What was your actual time? I assume your goal time was 2:29:59.

OK. And so what's the problem? Were you planning to retire from marathoning after this race or something?
302 is a very respectable time. Congrats on the PR.
Had a similar thing happen to me last fall. I PRed by 5 mins, but I really wanted to go 4/5mins faster than that, so after the race I was pleased, but not ecstatic, and my friends there noticed and were like wtf dude you just ran a lot faster than you ever have.
PRing is different for everyone. I'm young and still feel like I haven't really trained nearly as well as I could, so I'm improving quickly enough that just PRing hasn't been my goal in a race, I've always wanted much more. But as soon as I start getting into my 30's I know this is going to change.
Keep getting after it, be happy you're improving, love the sport

Hey, I ain't stoopid...it just took me 32 years to try the 5K.
If by "greedy" you mean "fat" then yes, you sound very "greedy."

From a psychological standpoint it makes sense to set several goals. Especially with a marathon as many things have to fall in place for it to be a perfect run.
For example:
Goal A: Run 2:29
Goal B: Improve on PB
Goal C: Don't bonk
It helps with situations like the one you are in.

Well, when it comes to goals and athletic ability, you are a failure.
But fear not, unless you were planning to race in London this week, you'll get another shot.

He might get another shot, but not at his wife. She's currently being banged by some crossfit hobby jogger happy with his sub 24 5K.
