I feel like a failure.
I feel like a failure.
You're right. Your wife is just trying to cheer you up but it didn't work because you know you're a failure. Have fun watching Boston on the crappy livestream.

2. Having or showing a desire to eat or drink in large or excessive amounts.

am·bi·tious (ăm-bÄsh′əs)
adj.
1. Full of, characterized by, or motivated by ambition.
2. Greatly desirous; eager: "I am not ambitious of ridicule" (Edmund Burke).
3. Requiring or showing much effort; challenging: an ambitious schedule.
------------------------
Greedy has that "excessive" aspect.
My guess is that you are ambitious.
I've run 33 marathons and probably 2/3 of them were busts. You run a pr and you're pissed? I was happy with a one minute pr.
The only situation I can imagine is that it was just your second marathon, and you hadn't trained for your first and trained like a madman for your second.
It depends on whether your goal time was reasonable given your fitness. I once PR'd by 54 minutes, and I was pissed because I underperformed.
You are not greedy. It's not wrong for you to feel like it was a failure. I often pr but I'm still dissapointed because I wanted to run faster. Your wife probably doesn't know anything about running or competition. The reason you wanted to go faster is because you are ambitious. I guess your wife isn't.
pics of your wife?

Or maybe his wife is able to put things in perspective.
Marathon in July? I call troll.
If serious, yes you're being greedy. Trust me, when you're too old to PR anymore, you'll longingly shake your head at the times that dissapoint you today.
Pics of wife?
What was the goal time? 2 minutes off 2:28 is much different than missing 3:30 by 2 minutes. A 2:30 marathon is really good. A 3:30 marathon is really "meh". Progress is exponentially hard when you get under 2:50.
Agree what time are we talking about... 6 min PR for me would be impossible. It depends on where you are compared to your ability.
A PR is a PR celebrate it they don't come often.
Next time or eventually you'll likely run slower and disappointed and wish you actually enjoyed your previous time an PR. We all think we can get faste and sometimes we are right, but often you hit a PR and it might be the one time you ever hit it...injuries...weather...etc... happen. Enjoy it while it's happening.

If your wife needs 8" but is only getting 6", should she be satisfied? I say no. Your goal is your goal. Be disappointed.

Swinging with your eyes closed.

Nope. When you invest a lot of time into running it is not "greedy" to have some basic expectations. You should be upset if you don't meet those goals, otherwise what is the point?
What was the time though? Kind of an important thing to leave out.
Yeah sorry, I didn't think it was important.
Ran 2.31, wanted 2.29...previous best was 2.37 six months ago.
