Tf? A 12:55 5000 is so much better than a 3:56. Like not even comparable. Ethiopians and Kenyans either lie about their ages or they don't know them. I doubt most of them have official birth certificates.

The vast majority of them have accurate birth certificates... the problem is the junior records are dominated by those who don't.

It's possible some East Africans have run insane times at a true age of 17, but probability says inaccurate passport is more likely, so don't expect him to greatly improve. MakwalaFan's post sums it up well.

It was a 20 sec PR, which adds credibility to him being young and inexperienced. There was a good pacer and Edris followed the pacer and Barega followed Edris. He just tried to keep up with Edris, and he could. In the final 200 he tried to outsprint him, but he couldn't, but he gave it a go. Looked very strong mentally.

they threw away ~ 5s in 3rd km when out to 7'52 instead of expected 7'45 ( that was still poor target )

kid can ideally go ~ 12'50 right now & on edris's sprint strength at end, i'd say he coud go ~ 12'47.5 ( mid-point of 12'45/12'50 )

The WR for the 5000m before EPO was Aouita's 12:55, a man who was likely the first of a flood of African dopers. When Aouita was 22, he could barely crack 14 minutes for the 5000 or 4 minutes for the mile.

Jakob's family are all world class middle-distance runners who have been coaching him since he popped out his mother's womb. Extraordinary talent + extraordinary environment = once in a generation athlete.

Before you get all high on Jakob Ingrebrigsten and call him a "once in a generation athlete" realize how old his oldest brother is. Henrik is 26 years old and his best performances were years ago. If I had not looked up his age, I would've easily guessed he was 29 or 30. He hasn't made a World Final since 2013 and his very good PB of 3:31.4 is from 2014. His SB is 3:38.9 and the first time he ran under that he was only 19. I won't disagree in that he may be a top European athlete, but I wouldn't be surprised if his best years are sooner rather than later, and short years at that.

Jacob Ingebrigtsen's father once said he expected Jacob's curve to flatten out in his late teens.

How in the hell did a 17 year old just run a 12:55 5k? A 20s pb this is a joke. $5 says that he has never been tested & he ain't 17.

Kipchoge is obviously 21/22 there. Now he is 35/36. It makes perfect sense.

Nobody rational is saying these athletes pretend to be 10 years younger than they are, but maybe 3/4/5 years younger.

Aouita's WR was 12:58 before Gebresellasie and Kiptanui lowered it to 12:55
