Curious as to why the 1 hr. delay makes it pointless to watch?
Because I can watch recordings of track at literally any time, and I can find better races than this meet will have. Being live is what makes it exciting. Do you not prefer watching sports live?
being a hit on tv isn't what makes this meet work financially...
The only way this meet works financially is hosting a road 5k with 700 participants each paying 30-50 bucks to get a 5k time w/ a bib before the meet.
that brings in about $20,000 and it brings in a majority of the meet's attendance.
which is what TrackTown did for the nyc meet.
our sport is supported by local runners paying to run a road race.
that's why marathons have big budgets becuase they have alot of money coming in from local runners' entry fees.
how many runners ran the road race?
I actually prefer to record live sports and start watching about 60-90min later. Using this approach, you can watch an entire football game without commercials and it takes half the time.
Personally, I would love to see track television broadcasts packaged that way. I would gladly ignore the internet and watch on a one hour tape delay to see all the races and key field event attempts in an action packed 90min broadcast.
Going one step further, the announcers are usually so bad in their real time analysis they could watch the races and then call the action from the replay. Maybe then they would get all the names and placing accurate.
that kind of edit is expensive on a short turnaround but I agree
$100 VIP seats with Open Bar and food buffet must be filled. NYRR Club unners love that type stuff

no way did those entries cover anywhere close to the cost of putting this on. Trust me, I organize a race myself and know the costs involved.

Is it just me or is ESPN still showing the softball game? Were they supposed to start showing the meet now?
The meet was on a tape delay so this wouldn't happen but game is going long.

Yep. Turned off a movie to watch the meet. The softball game is only in the 6th inning so going to miss a bit chunk of the meet.

The only way this works financially is if it's hit a hit tv wise.
So they went with the tape delay as they were afraid the softball game before the meet might go into extra innings and then the broadcast would be messed up big time.
I heard they originally were going to have the meet 9-11 here but were told that's too late on a weeknight.
Good cal
Can v USA in regular innings still and will run long anyway
wtf..... yet another clusterF^%& by track and field, can't even get your f&^king meets on TV on time... but hey at least they are the correct gender and not doped,...... oh wait

PR for Windle, PR for Garn, PR for Arroyo. Nice race.
Arroyo has steadily improved after running 1:47 in HS. I always say him as a miler as he ran sub 15 and 8'52 for 3200 in HS. Wonder if he will join a group and try to run the 1500 any time.
Loxsom 49./57 split is brutal.
They tape delay it so it won't get prempted, it gets preempted any way. Now because it isn't live ESPN can cut it off at 11 for sports center. Smart.
Is there any other way to see the meet-other than waiting for this softball game to end?
