I think Fricker trains with Efraimson. Fricker's dad ran at Oregon State in the late 70's. Was good; maybe 3:37 1500

Mark was Oregon State '82.

married pretty sure, seeya
If so, she kept her name.
So the Tracktown people kept saying that these meets would be like no others that they had all different kinds of innovations.
I was not at Stanford and I didn't watch it so can somebody who was there or who watched the webcast tell me what was so new and innovative about this meet?

what the hell did I just watch?
was like a high school track meet with a tacky announcer
actually I've seen better high school track meets
this was a sponsored, funded, elite event? really?

i don't understand why some people on this board are so motivated to hate something? it was a fun meet, there were some exciting performances, and it was extremely accessible - wasn't the entire LRC community up in arms a week ago because there wasn't any good/FREE way to watch USAs? kudos to the organizers for trying something new and making it so easy to find and watch

did you watch the tracktown summer series last year?
this isn't "new" - it was actually halfway decent last year, hence being critical
I don't hate it, just really disappointed in how amateur it seemed and just imagine someone new to watching track&field tuning in and writing running off completely
doesn't have to be olympics quality but I expect something reasonably close to a diamond-league event

i did watch last year - i thought last year felt a bit disorganized/rushed ahead of the olympics so i thought yesterday was a step in the right direction, especially since it seems like the focus is on the championship in new york next week.
what did like more about last year? not trying to argue, genuinely curious
and i meant 'new' in terms of concept, not execution, although last year was the debut so i think it still counts as new

If you're not happy, you're free to put on your own meet douchebag
I will admit this much, the tiny-tots half-lap at the end was super adorable, even the announcer was making some really funny comments, ie. "some of those kids don't look 4 years old!" and "multiple lane violations!"
I'm being completely serious, they should do that at the end of all T&F events on television or streaming to draw in families and kids (note, at the END of the event)
but obviously that is not what draws people to T&F events
remember the high school event several weeks back that was streamed? that was actually more interesting to watch than this tracktown event, not sure why other than I expected more from a sub/elite show
they are beginning to do this at some of the ultras - let the kids run a 50k after the main 100-mile race. it's really cute!
Great broadcast. Chelimo looked extremely easy for 56/7:48. Fields is a major find for the 1500. And that kid who won the tot's dash is the reincaarnation of Fermin Cacho.

Is this the Fricker who is primarily a thiathlete and her dad is the idiot who curses at the players during Washington Wizards games? Or is that somebody else?
I never saw Brenda Martinez in person. She's so pretty!

Lananna wanted to get the spectators more involved in the meet and create a festive atmosphere. I think a lot of meets in Europe do those things.
An all comers meet and corporate team challenge preceded the main events and were seamlessly integrated into the meet. Everyone stood for the National Anthem, sung by a lady with a very nice voice. A DJ played (mostly bad) music throughout the meet. Towards the end spectators were encouraged to come onto the infield and outer lanes to cheer on the high school mile and toddler races. The high school mile was a good showdown between the two best kids in the Nation this year. The team aspect is new to US track and field and is something commonly done in Europe with all the various club teams. There was an area of the track where the local running store, the Elliptigo company and a couple of other vendors had tents set up selling merchandise. I witnessed a man actually purchasing an Elliptigo after the meet. They also had team tee shirts for sale. Midway through the meet there was a one mile race between four people on Elliptigos. There was a bunch of tables set up near the athlete entrance, stacked with full size pizza boxes with fresh pizza. Near the end of the meet the Stanford guys were in a group on the track watching the high school mile when Grant Fisher walked up holding one of the pizza boxes which I found amusing. Some things never change: young college guys are still always looking for free food.
It was a fun meet with some good performances (women's 1500 was as good as most Diamond League races). I would have preferred a couple of more events, maybe a men's 800 and 100 and women's 100. The women's 800m race was pretty good but I can't figure out how Sanne Verstegen gets to be on the New York Empire team. Maybe they are giving a nod to the history of that city which was founded by the Dutch. I enjoyed attending a meet where the audience clapped for the athletes and had overall positive vibes. Starting off with all comers events is a good way to warm up the meet officials some of whom don't normally work with each other.

Are you kidding? Paul Swangard is an excellent announcer. The regular announcer at Stanford meets is also outstanding but Swangard works the elite circuit and knows the athletes' history and names making him the better choice for this meet.
i agree on the Paul Swangard front - he did an excellent job, absolutely did his homework - nice to hear a few lines about each athlete, even the not-well known ones. the fact that he has a sense of humor is also a bonus

Not a triathlete. I don't know who you're thinking of. Use Google.
