A good NFL example is Manning--he really fell apart in 2015 but still did enough to win it all. Jack in the '86 Masters at 46 is an example.
Ran 18:53 in HS and 18:33 at age 24. I'm 33 now.
I'm finding I'm able to get back in shape sort of (6 miles in 52-53) after 3 weeks of base mileage. Started off running 5k in 28 on 6/5.
I know I'll never hit 18:30 again in the 5k, but that's ok--I'm just hoping to break 2 in the half.
ADVICE TO YOUNG RUNNERS: Go as fast as you can early on, so that if you get old and realize you may never be able to hit the times you had then, you'll at least know you were fast at that time. If you are able to be even faster than your youth, go for it!
