7:20 at the bell, 8:16 final time. That's some absolutely insane finishing speed for a steeple. And people were doubting him winning...lol.
Gutted for Bayer placing 4th 3 years in a row, that sucks big time.

Great.
If he can do that in an 8:00 race he could win at WC.

The 2015 race was ~8:11 and closed slower (granted, Kemboi was doing his usual pre-finish line gyrations in lane 5). The 2013 race was won in 8:06 and Kemboi closed in over 60 (again, with a grain of salt).
Not saying Jager has a world title in the bag...he lacks the ability to respond to the sudden bursts by the Kenyans (see the 2015 final where he got left in the dust in a matter of strides by all 4 Kenyans), but he has a shot if he takes it hard from the bell (or beyond).
Jager runs a really bad race at Payton Jordan, disappears to Park City for months, and then shows up at USAs in world class form. I don't think he's a doper and I'm glad he's looking good.
But if he was in NOP, everybody and his mother would be screaming that he's doped. Definite double standard.
At the bell, I was thinking with the shape he's in, 8:21 would be a great finish. And he blew me away.
I think with some work, and a good sports psychologist, he's got gold in him this year.
He needs to be willing to take the lead 800 out, and try to grind their wheels off. I don't think he can shift fast enough to let them dictate the last two laps. But he is strong enough and fast enough to out-grind the best in the world. He just has to go for it.

I think it has more to do with the coaches and their respective reputations.
56.70 official split. He closed in Rio in 60 for 8:05. Anyone know what Kipruto closed in? I'm thinking 58.
I still think Jager is doping including the rest of the BTC people.
I guarantee they aren't doping but riding that same line as the Salazar group.

Of course you do, you probably think ever professional athlete is a doper.
Proof that the right genes are everywhere--not just the Rift Valley. The Chicago suburbs have basically nothing good for running development--flat, not at altitude, sidewalks and roads not trails--but many great US runners have come from there--Robert Gary, Chris Derrick, Evan Jager, Jim Spivey.
Lmao Jerry Schumacher hasn't been outed by the New York Times for injecting his athletes with l- carnitine this isn't a double standard
he also looked very relaxed while running a 56. He looked like he was running a tempo
Also include: Sage, Bakken, Lukas V, Torres brothers, Winthrow, etc.

Pretty sure that's never been done. So, yeah, good chance he'd win gold.

No doubt Chicago area is very competitive for high school distance running, but Jager is a truly special talent. Jacobs wasn't exactly a powerhouse outside of their 4x8 when he was there. He would have done well in any environment.
How far was the lap?
Inside water jump?
take out the barriers and make it 400 and he runs 54 last lap. that guy is fit
those speculating doping,.... he underperformed early on, went and got in shape. remember he has an olympic medal to his name in the event.
The top four all broke 60 on the last lap.Jager 56.70, 57.98 for Stanley Kebenei, Hillary Bor 58.13, Andy Bayer 58.48Great running all around.

I don't buy the logic. The NOP has been linked to practice that a) many people find unethical b) may be breaking anti-doping rules.
Bowerman Track Club as far as I can tell hasn't been linked to those things so I think it's perfectly normal for people to treat people in the groups differently.
Jager surged from well before the bell. That will keep the others from surging as he will be near top speed for a bit. Let's hope he holds form.
