Embarassing.
True that. He thinks he's really funny.
He lost his job in the Air Force because of drinking. Clearly he gas a drinking problem. What's scary is that he's one of the few people that the safety of the entire world depended on with his employment in missile silos. How many others in the Air Force are like him. God help us all.
He's a total loser!
Trucker hat, check
Beer in hand, check
Drinker with a running problem, check
A true ultra runner right there, the poster child of the sport, too.
But on a serious note, he has native american blood and is also probably 135 lbs 6 foot tall so cut him some slack.
Back in the day this was carb loading. He's taking it old school. How many did Frank have before Olympic gold?
This guy is insufferable. So cocky. I don't see the appeal.
And I really hope they drug test him after the event, win or lose.

I worked in the missile field for four years in another state.Jim wasn't the only one going wackadoo at an LCF.
no excuses, but the dude isnt an entirely unsympathetic character
He's basically saying he's going to front run it. Lots of talk about a chase pack. That's how he runs, so have to respect that. 5am tomorrow is the start. It should be great.
I'm a big fan and think a lot of you are overreacting. He's having a beer, that is all. He always talks like this. So what if his goal is to win, I find it refreshing that someone is willing to say that. I suspect many elites have healthy egos. If you don't believe in yourself, the chances of winning probably get a bit slimmer. Jim believes and I so hope he is able to complete what he tried to do last year. If he does, perhaps some of you will consider that his holding a beer at an social event 3 days before a race isn't that big a deal. Perhaps some of you read too much into things (in my head I respond to myself - "ya' think?"

He seems like a flake. Or bipolar. He really thinks he's a badass, but he'd be manhandled in a real race. So he runs really, really long races.

Why the hate? I must be missing something.
Yes, you are.
Already did that. He ran 2015 US Cross and got destroyed over 12km. Also avoids marathons.

Why don't you jump into the ultra scene and put him in his place then?

Anyone who is admitted and graduates from any of the academies is by definition not a loser. That is a serious accomplishment.

Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
