Not top 2 in his heat. Barely runs sub 1:47. Will he once again fail to advance from the first round?

i said he wasn't a lock on some thread yesterday.this isn't surprising based on his past meet performanceshe's so good but doesn't have the mentality for it

Might be testing at this event.
Unfortunately he'll make it on time
are you guys really this dumb? He's 6th overall, it was just a fast heat. Murphy ran 1:47.88, slower than Brazier, SOUND THE ALARM BELLS!1!!

He was in heat 1. How could he predict that 1:46.97 would end up being fast enough? He couldn't. He was only the second fastest to qualify on time. In his mind, after the race, he thought that he would not make it through. He did not come third in his heat on purpose.
Exactly this. Wrong mindset. He got lucky honestly, with that mindset in any other heat he would've gone home DEVASTATED

I could have easily predicted that
look, he's never going to make a world final. he's done. get over it. out

I could have easily predicted that
But you didn't.
He let up and got passed at the last second. That's the difference between how hard he went vs how hard Ryan Manahan (who got him at the line) went. Not a big deal. He'll be fine, especially after what we saw in Rome.

Why is it unfortunate that one of our fastest 800 guys moved on?
How soon you sorry excuses for track fans forget the first round of Rio when Murphy didn't automatically qualify for the semis and had to get in on time. It wasn't even a year ago.

Exactly, 800 rounds are a sh*t show. The only thing that matters is he moved on, end of story.

This isn't the Olympics, bruh. It's the first round of USAs where he is a second and a half faster than everyone else in his heat: theoretically.

The same scenario applies, "bruh" - you have to move on. Clayton nearly didn't and then ended up with bronze. Margins are small in the 800m and a lot can happen. Don't be a n00b.
Brazier did not stop in the mixed zone, but told NBC's Craig Masback that he knew he'd get into the semi-final on time, but that he was cramping in the heat. He also said when not stopping in the mixed zone something along the lines of "It's hot as shit out there."
