Why hasn't he run the 200m in Rio?
add up those times and MJ is still better

Talking 100/200/400 combo sprinters.
Jamaican Herb McKenley made the Olympics final in all three.
Tommie Smith was world ranked in all three (WR200/400) as was McKenley and Henry Carr.
MJ was histories only sub10.10/19.35/43.20 and still is actually. WR200/400.
WVN is the only sub10.00/sub20.00/sub43.10
McKenley was histories first sub 45.0 relayer
Smith the first sub 44.00 relayer
MJ the first sub 43.00 relayer.
That above gang set about a 20WR's.
I can see a 9.88/19.55/42.99 for WVN down the road.
So you think WVN can run SIGNIFICATNLY faster than MJ for 100 and 400, but still be 0.2 slower for 200?

For sure this is correct. But it's some sort of stupidity to list it this way, when in fact he even is the only sub 10.00, sub 20.00, sub 44.00 guy? And even this can be stretched. When you want to show Van Niekerks uniqueness, it's not very wise to list a mark which only he himself has bettered.
And realize he is the only one in history to run under 42 seconds for 100m and 43.10 for 400m.

This ^.
Does anyone know if he is down to run the 200 in London?

For sure you are a great comedian. But is it just possible, that you didn't get the point at all?
WvN versus Bolt at 200 is silly. WvN is at or approaching his peak, Bolt is probably 8 years past his best. I'm sure it would be a good race but Bolt 2009 would destroy WvN of 2017 in 200m. Same goes for Bekele v. Farah at 5000. Bekele is also 8 or 9 years past his peak, maybe more considering his WR is like 11 years old.

But Van Niekerk would have had a great chance against Bolt in Rio. Really dissapointing that he didn't run. Why did he not run? Was it not possible because he was not entered? If so, why have they done so? He must be well aware of his fantastic form even before the games. And that Bolt definitely will not do his promised sub 19...
Incredible, I wonder what he would do in the 800m

Sure he can still run a 200m in Rio, however it won't be the Olympics

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading an article that was linked on here somewhere that said his coach didn't want him to run the 200 but this was the first year he was allowed to actually compete it full time as opposed to mostly the 400 with maybe some other races thrown in.

Bekele and Farah are less than a year apart in age, Bekele has no excuses for his fall from greatness.

No, but he does have a good reason, namely that his injuries have blocked him from training as needed
Van Niekerk will beat his world record one more time. But he will not go under 43s.
So what
Van Niekerk was in 9.7x shape in Rio last year - if he had run the 100m a few times, I promise you he would have gone 9.7x within 5 all-out tries
You can't run 43.03 without being able to run 9.7x - it's just not possible. Michael Johnson probably could have run 9.7x as well and had the WR in that event too if he trained seriously for the 100m
Something close to 9.75 speed is necessary to run sub-43 in the 400m. 43.03 is insanely fast
I tried looking up an 800 time but none listed. I be he can easily run five minute mile repeats. He and Andre de grassroots are da future.

Using that logic, Farah has no excuses for not being great from 2003 to 2009....
and yes, Bkele did fall from greatness on the track due to injuries but i'd say his marathon career has been fairly successful so far

I can say that I really don't know a lot about sprinting. But I still also can say that this quote is wrong, definitely wrong, and by a long way.
I would tend more to the opposite: If you can run 9.75, then you will have no chance to run 43.03.
