Does anyone know how old some of these guys from Western State are? No offense, but Rubin and Paul McRae look like they could 27-29 years old.
They are tough runners for sure.

Actually they are both around that age, maybe older.
They are both twins from New Zealand.
I guess they were too old to go DI.
They both kick ass though
8 March 1973 - do the math, they are 30yrs old?
Are there any other runners in D2 older than them?
kennesaw state has a runner on their team in the mid 30s. believe it or not, he was a 356 miler back in 1990.
Hi,
Does any one remember Vladimir Golias? He ran at central Missouri state. Won the steeple all four years at D2. How old was he?
Thomas
Rubin and Paul are good runners, but get over the freaking age issue already. They are not the backbone of Westerns team. Banks, Christiansen, Eberly, Donald, Nags, Siemers, etc... are all normal college age kids.
How can you get over age issues when you have 19 and 20 year old kids trying to qualify for NCAA's but the the 30 year old elite New Zealanders are taking up 2 spots in Mile/ 5,000? Doesn't seem right to me. I think D2 should reconsider the rules if what I am hearing on this board is true.
However I do agree with you, after doing some research, the majority of the Western team is typical college kids, like the Nagelgerke (sp) brothers. They came along way since HS!
Not sure how old Golias was, he looked like he was about 35.
And it seemed like he was around forever. Like 6-7 years.
How old was Aish when he graduated? Anyone know?
Aish would have been 25yrs old when he graduated.
Aish was 25 as a FRESHMAN. Trust me I know.
If you want to run against people who are the same age go DI, if not then quit bitching. Those foreign athletes aren't standing at your door keeping you from training hard enough to beat them!
Mike was 25 when he was done running idiots. That is still old enough to compete D1. There are only 2 foreigners that race for western state. The rest of the guys are normal American college age kids. That is more than what many other schools can say. Plus there was only 1 foreigner on their national championship team, which they placed all there top 7 in the top 18 of the race. People just cant give a school credit when they have done something great.
No I guess you're right, they're not standing at my door. But I wonder what they WERE doing with those extra 10 years of training and experience under their belt. I'd like to read some biographies on their pre-NCAA running careers. Have they been running since they were 12 like I have been? Is the school system entirely different in New Zealand? Or did they take 7 years off and devote it to training? What made them decide to go to school in the US?
Don't interpret ALL of my curiosity as bitching...Jerky.
Jerk this!
you quief
Speaking of foreign kids there at western, i heard they were recruiting an australian (maybe New Zealand) kid named Ian Hornabrook.
I heard he's in JUCO right now, Anyone know how good he is?
How old he is?
yeah hes an aussie. Australia and New Zealand are two very different countries. We havnt got him yet but it would be great if we did.
He is barely over 21 and a 5:55 2k steepler according to that website that is posted on this site.
Another new kiwi, young too:

Rock thrower?Worm Farm? must be a western joke
d2 coach, you obviously dont know what youre talking about
and yah, nz kids stay in hs until theyre 19
aish took two years off from school before going to western, which would make him a 21 yr old freshman
I competed against Ian Hornabrook..He is a strong runner..I knew he has ran 14:40 5k 8:30ish 3k and 4:13 or so mile.. Won Juco cross country meet this past fall
um sorry we dont stay in highschool until 19, we finish at 18.
