Not sure what you people are smoking (can i get some?) But I think he is a lock in both. It is an off year and he is challenging himself. I like it and it makes him extremely marketable in the eyes of sponsors.
On that note I think Brazier is a bust. Great athlete. Great time trialer. Just cursed.
He has one bad meet and you call him a bust? Come on
I know centro is thinking Murphy will try to drop the hammer the last 100m but centro will smoothly drop that last gear and hold off Murphy
I like to see two juggernauts battle, kinda like the 1000 they ran last yr in Houston which favored Murphy. Cento will do to Murphy what he did to lagat in 2011

he's already doing too much.
stick to the 8. and lower your 400m time.
Doesn't he have some 46.X 4x4 splits to his name? That's probably better 400 speed than almost all of the 800/1500 types out there. Brazier certainly has better 400 speed, but I would argue that we should expect that since he's more of a 400/800 guy.
4:07 full mile in high school Donovan Brazier? Okay. Yeah. It sounds like you just need to give it time.

On another note, what do you mean by an off year? I would consider 2018 an off year because there are no world championships or Olympics.
Can't claim to know what he's thinking etc., but if I had an OG medal to my name as a 22-year-old, I'd definitely treat the upcoming WC year as a year to try things out. I'd be focused on the next OG as far as worrying about a medal--whatever happens at WC is icing on the cake.
assuming he qualifies in both, the schedule in London actually sets up about as well as it can for him. For reference the total meet runs from August 4-13.
800:
1st round- 05 Aug 12:45
Semis- 06 Aug 21:15
Finals- 08 Aug 21:35
1500:
1st round- 10 Aug 20:25
Semis- 11 Aug 20:10
Finals- 13 Aug 20:30
He gets his primary event out of the way first and then gets just under 48 hours before the bonus event starts.
The goal is a podium place in London. If Clayton can get one in either championship event, he should decide which event to run in London, not worry which one he can make the team in. Clayton could make both and decide before London. Who would have thought Rio's 1500 would be won so slowly? It is all about a medal in London, not about whether he is 2nd or 3rd in even both at USTAF.
That worlds schedule is a perfect reason to try this.
The risk is not making the US team in the 800 as that will be his fifth and final race in that four day stretch.
He might qualified in both. I think he has better a chance in the 800m, tough.

Dave Wottle did the same in '72. If anyone can pull it off, it's Murphy.
Similarly, Coe in LA in '84.
Gutsy move, hopefully it doesn't blow up in his face. I hope he's fresh enough to make an impact in the 1500 final, let alone the 800. Track and field is made even harder due to the increased specialization compared to the rest of TF history, I hope Clayton doesn't lose it all this year by overplaying his hand competing against some stacked fields.
Clayton is getting greedy. After getting a silver he's been trying really hard to have a season just as good if not better. 1:44 early. World Relays gold, 3:53-4 mile, AR 1k attempt, doubling at USAs, and then worlds?
Im still suspicious of this guy. He went from 1:52 to 1:42 in about 2 and a half years.

why doesn't he just say he's in eugene bc he's dating ariana washington? it is common knowledge on the boards at this point
Since I don't even know who that is.

Murphy still hasn't run the world/Olympic qualifying time in the 1500m. He still has a lot to prove in that event

4:07 is not comparable to 46 for 400, and can't run that now anyway, since he's eliminated any over distance training.

His mile time in pre qualifies him for both usatf and iaaf standards.

Last I heard he is dating Tara Snipes

I don't mean he won't be able to qualify, I mean he has a lot to prove still in the 1500m.
Hasn't done that well internationally yet in that event.

He has run 1 major international 1500/mile to my knowledge, and that was pre. Also the 1500 at worlds would purely be a bonus event i imagine, since it is after the 800.
Clayton is MAGA-ing too hard this year.
