Can't get paid. He'll get paid. THe NCAA pays tons and tons of mediocre athletes for 4 years. They get to live for free and go to school for free. It's an amazing minor league system.
Do you really think Coleman would be running 9.82 if he didn't have the NCAA system to motivate him? No. The NCAA gives you goals to focus on. Being a pro is hard, there is only really one goal.
The coach doesnt' have all the power really anymore. The kid can transfer. He can go pro. And letting the coach have all of that power may actually be good for the athlete. Gives them structure.
