So, four months out from the big race. I started this training phase with a 5k trial. I ran 18:12, a personal best by nine seconds. It's been three months since I ran an actual 5k, so my pacing strategy was way off. 5:40, 5:53, 5:58, and the last 200m in 35 seconds.
So, my goal for these four base-building months is to hit a sub-18 and have my current tempo pace, 6:09/mile, become my XC 10k Pace. I ran a 10k tempo on Mother's Day in 38:36 on a flat course, so with training I'm sure that could become a XC race pace in four months. Training goals is to handle 55-60mpw, and do quality sessions on sand and/or trail twice a week. Here's what that'll look like for the first month.
Mon Tempo on Trail, followed by strength circuit.
Wed Either 10 x 400m Mile/1500m Effort on Sand, followed by strength circuit, or 15miles
Thur Easy Run
Fri Easy Run
Sat Either Time Trial or 15miles
How do y'all think this will pan out? Are these realistic goals? Thanks for reading.
