The Chancellor called it an athletic scandal. That's good enough for me.

I am a North Carolinian. Lots of misinformation in this case. Let me give some facts.
1. Unc did not set up fake courses. A couple of very slack professors in the African American studies dept had classes in which they required little or no work and often did not show. One was a summer class in which you came the first day, received a topic to do a paper on, then turned it in.
2. 67 percent of the people who took these classes were not athletes. Word got around about the easy classes and students flocked.
3. A couple of tutors in the athletic dept steered athletes, particularly the weak ones, toward these classes. Still, most athletes did not take them.
4. Unc is the oldest public university in the usa and one of the best. It has a law school, a denistry school, a journalism school, and a very difficult path to admission. Even in a large high school, you generally must be in the top one to two percent of your class to get in. It Is far and away the best public college in nc. The only suspect srudents at this university are athletes. Remember, athletes make up a tiny share of the students.
5. The ncaa has traditionally not gotten involved in academics because where would it end? The fact they turn a blind eye to one and dones and the fact that athletic kids who can barely read get into colleges around the country prove it is all about the money. While I believe athletes should not get special treatment as far as admissions go, i do admit it would change the quality of the product on the field.
P.S. I am neither a grad of unc or a fan of the teams. I do know that every college has crip courses that students can smell from a mile away.
I am a grad and former athlete. I think you need to read the Weinstein Repot, Carolina'sown investigation, if you think it was a couple of slack professors. 1,2, and 3 are false. 4 is true which makes all of the alumni I know very upset that the current admin has thrown academic integrity under the bus for athletics. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/1344054-full-wainstein-report.html
Lets look at a couple things:
A) When is the last time any and I mean annnnny athlete has sat out because they are flunking a course or 2 or 3?? There are some athletes out there that slip through the system but because of their athletic ability they take the field, court, or toe the line. I know some football players that were taking remedial classes and not even making the standard 2.0 GPA to play take the field on Sunday for the BIG GAME. So who gives a flying F what UNC did its a standard that every player plays and why did it take Rashad McCants 10 years to come forward?? 10 years to say anything come on he should have said something from the start.
8) Victoria Jackson sure got some publicity much like Rashad did? What is she trying to hock on her blog? Is she selling something? Her name is out there now like McCants. I mean I honestly forgot about that kid until he was on every ESPN news station and numerous other talk shows. Its like a football player for Penn St coming forward 15 years later and saying I saw Jerry Sandusky laughing with some kids. Who care its irrelevant and its awesome how names get posterized when there is a scandal or cheating or whatever. Same goes for the NOP under investigation now, everyone who is blowing the whistle is getting some notoriety.
