I guess anyone can throw on a skirt and call themselves a girl if they want but this is going to ruin women's sports. This is devastating for the biological females. There should be a cutoff for testosterone levels. If they are above the cutoff then they can compete against the boys.
Being intersex is too much of an advantage too. Why does Melissa Bishop, Kate Grace, Belinda Martinez and others even try if they are running against someone with an unfair biological advantage?
I self identify as a liberal progressive but even I think this completely absurd!

According to current thinking, people can choose their sex/gender. People cannot choose their race.
Also, you cannot talk about why people can choose their sex/gender, but can't choose their race or you will be attacked as a transphobic racist:

We have sunk this low? So this is the coaching mentality now? Why not throw a skirt on a greyhound and let them compete. Where do we draw the line?

I wouldn't say that this is universal, but watching the interview and listening to the coach, I'd say it seems to be his mentality.
Also, I'll just leave this here.

Titile IX has limited the access of males to sports at the college level. By enforcing "equality" when male sports like Football exist, that means cutting other male sports and limiting the size in others, then inflating the women's sports to compensate. Track & Field has taken a big hit because of misguided application of Title IX.
Transgender competition is not fair to female sports. Probably those in transition should not be allowed to compete. But even with therapy / hormones, nobody wants to make the rules or even touch it with a 10 foot pole. Until someone does, this will continue to be an issue and fans will basically watch two races in the women's race.
People should be able to do what makes them happy, but not at the expense of others.

Two completely separate issues.
One kills women's sport. The other kills men's college sport.
How about some of the men declare themselves as cross dressers and run women's track? The world will once again in balance.
And a smart school will let them double up in the football team and spend some of the women's money

This is a joke. Are people stupid? Do sports administrators in CT not understand why we have women's sports? We have women's sports because biological females aren't on average nearly as strong/fast, etc as biological males. To allow someone who is biologically male to compete in women's sports simply because they identify as a woman is absurd.
The solution is simple. Require hormone treatment.
I'm actually waiting for4 a college to do away with gender based sports in college. After all, they don't have gender based academics. Yes they have gender based screenings of Wonder Woman, but that is bidness.
Single gender. One set of sports. Add Softball, bring in some beer drinking fatties who should be wearing a bra.
Solved. The men are back on top.

The situation in Connecticut is not a Semenya situation. Semenya is not transgender, she has a genetic intersex condition. The athlete in Connecticut is objectively a biological male. Semenya is objectively intersex with characteristics of both male and female (reportedly). Being intersex is not a condition Semenya has any choice or control over or anything she "identifies" as.
Maybe the solution should be the same - determining sex by testosterone levels or something similar - that's all arguable. But being intersex and transgender are not the same.
Exactly, the Semenya situation is different, but most on here probably don't realize that.
Regarding determining sex by testosterone levels, I don't think it is feasible to do blood tests a high school level. Plus, as noted transgenders that go through hormone replacement therapy may be in the levels for a female, but they have a body of a male. You can go through hormone replacement therapy, but if you are a 7 footer, you will still dominate physically. Really the solution is to have a biological female division and a open/male division.

What?
Wouldn't it be better to simply say that this young man is in fact... wait for it... a young man? No drugs would be necessary to alter his probably properly functioning physiology, or at least those aspects such hormones would be intended to suppress.
This boy doesn't want to be a girl. He would be playing with the boys if he could, However, I bet he isn't too upset and has been able to train and play with males,

This is actually fairly common:

It is not this transgendered teen it is the girls who have to compete with this boy. The reason they are the victims is because they are forced to act like they are okay with it or they will heavily be criticized. Think about it do you really think they feel great about getting kicked around by a dude that thinks he is a chic? I am no buying it. There are no winners in this situation. There is nothing fair about this. As a male runner he is not very good average at best but as a female he is crushing it. For all of those who think this is okay let the college scouts decided in years to come and I can promise they will not be knocking on this kids door.

I don't know what the answer is when it comes to transgender athletes participating in gender-separated sports.
What I do know is that anyone who thinks being transgender is a "mental illness" or refers to a transgender person as "that thing" is a disgusting, sad, little-minded person.
Ummm, while I agree that the use of "that thing" for a human being could often be very demeaning, why should I not believe that many so-called "transgender" persons are not mentally ill? First, I believe it is absurd to refer to Bruce Jenner as a woman or with feminine pronouns (regardless of whatever name he goes by). And please tell me why I should disbelieve that his troubles are with his mental processes?
This is truly a travesty to track and field. People need to open their eyes on this as this is just another way to cheat.
That boy should put some effort into his scam trying to fake it as a girl. He should at least shave that facial hair. It is so obvious he is just faking it all.
Wejo, the kid, apparently to me, is not a she but a he. Why do you refer to him with a feminine pronoun?

You are of course correct and you are of course correct that there are no winners here. Yearwood knows in his heart he is no winner. He knows in his heart who he really is. We as a society by pretending he is girl are doing him no good. It is like telling a bipolar person who won't seek help who is destroying their life and the the people that around them that they are doing just fine. We are doing this young boy no favors.
As for the actual girl who should have won, yes she must pretend like it is ok, as we all know by the age of 10, that if you don't conform, the Left will point a finger at you, label you, isolate you, and intimately destroy you for your non-conformance to their progressive agenda
Lots of pretending going on, it is the only way to survive in this wacky post modern world of ours. For example we must also pretend while we are protesting that pipeline that will kill us all, that there isn't already 10,000 interstate pipelines already in existence, but I digress.....
