If athletes generally knew what was best for themselves, then they wouldn't need coaches. Do the athletes you are reffering to have coaches?
This thread seems kinda harsh.
Lotta Stanford haterade hereabouts.

Some people do get it and some clearly do not......when you don't know what is going on with an athlete (injury, illness, or other) don't make the ridiculous speculations nor the cruel judgements. Cranny has demonstrated more than once her incredible ability to come back STRONG from whatever adversity she may be facing. Look forward to her future successes
looks like you posted 2016 results....
Additionally, she's attending an academically prestigious school. I would assume that is taking at least some of her limited supply of energy. I can only wish I was as fast as her, went to Stanford, and had a "bodacious butt".

You are right to question. The original post author most likely sits at home devastated. Original post author becomes even more devastated when contemplating "what might have been" in his/her life.
Clearly, Cranny came into this race having had some sort of issue that hindered her from competing at Pac 12's which probably hindered her training at a key point leading into championship season. I applaud her for getting out there and competing at Regional's and making it through the first round. With her talent, had she qualified, and with a couple of more weeks of training she likely would have done very well at National's. Sensible people that love the sport of track and field and understand the ups and downs of being an athlete, look forward to her having some great races this summer and a great XC and track season her senior year and beyond if she so chooses.

You're not willing to entertain the possibility that she agrees with you, and so chose Stanford?

If she agreed with me and chose Stanford, she chose wrong.
Track record of the two coaches says it all. Wetmore has consistently outcoached pretty much everyone in the NCAA (and certainly Milt) and she would've had the chance to train with Jenny Simpson, Emma Coburn (until this year), Sara Sutherland, Dani Jones, et al.

Read more closely. She wanted to give herself the best chance to succeed.

Two Reasons:
1. Today's runners don't race enough.
2. Today's runners get burned in gutless tactical races.
They deserve every failure that they bring upon themselves.

If he was referring to academics (which my original post clearly wasn't) it's still wrong. Undergrad is almost meaningless at this point.
They're all running for NIRCA
Sometimes it just doesn't happen. All this chatter is crap. On any given day, anyone can win. There are so many really great and talented runners that just do not win on a specific day for no other reason than, IT DID NOT HAPPEN>

What are you talking about??? No one is talking about her not winning. They are talking about her not QUALIFYING for the final round and coming in last place. LAST PLACE.

Sick? Injured? Break up? Nerves? Or just a bad day. Isn't the end of the world and expect she'll be back and near the front soon.
If you're going to respond something, at least get it right...she was NOT last-don't be obnoxious

If you are going to respond to something, at least get it right. My point was correct. She was SECOND to last. She missed last place by .2 seconds. My point and post is still valid.
