Oh how the memories fad. Have you ever, ever run on the verge of becoming injured. Ever? How about in High School, College? Did you ever second guess yourself and run in a race anyway and have the minor soreness erupt into something more...and couldn't put pedal to the metal because of it.
This is the beginning of the season. If Tom Brady was sore (I'm sure if Brady said he is sore, it really means injured) and on the verge of the pain becoming more, I'm sure Coach and owner would take the time for Brady to heal and be right to insure a full season and not miss any games for the playoffs. Mature long term planning.
Matt has two coaches that I know about The Rookie and his dad. I'm sure Matt didn't wake up and say, "gosh, I think I'll pass on the Pre Classic today". It was probably discussed a lot and in depth and along with his trainer. Didn't Matt run in a race with a stressed adductor not too long ago. He did an excellent run.
Matt missing out on Pre he loses either way. Rankings. Public opinion I'm sure his contract mentions he need x amount of races per year. And then there are incentives to consider. For him to run or not run is not his decision alone.
And for you to say Matt is at fault that him not running is the problem with our sport.
"Subject
Centro not running Pre is the perfect example of why our sport isn't more popular. "
Shame on you.
And aren't you a coach. You mean to tell us that you would have your top athlete run in a race on the verge of being injured to attain a NCAA title?
Matt has a marvelous future ahead of him for us. As he has had a wonderful past history in running. He has had us proud.
He'll hopefully make another Olympics and perhaps be a double Gold Medalist.
His team has brought him along nicely. I am not one to second guess them at all.
And yes, I would have enjoyed to see him run like he does at Pre.
