a 1:20 puts you on pace for what? a 1:46 high? he will need to drop that in the prelims minimum, then a 1:45 low, then 1:44 mid? for the top 3
On the subject of 600s, does anyone have an opinion of an untrained 13 year old who runs 600m in 1:34 around a dirt field in training shoes? General Phys Ed class does time trials every two weeks, alternating between mile and 600. What kind of potential does that time possibly indicate? Distance was carefully marked with a wheel, been in use many years.
Hard to say. What is the mile time been? 1:34 is quick but the next 200 could be another 31 or it could be a 51. 700 is where lots of even well trained runners lock up.
1:52-1:55 in HS
If he has been active and running tests in gym class. then he is not untrained.
Some of the biggest jumps in fitness come early in training off of relatively little.

That sounds interesting. Thanks for the reply. The JHS is more academically oriented, no organized sports until High School. I think it best to let kids be kids and enjoy themselves while they can. This particular little guy did run the fastest time in many years and smoked the other kids in that time trial so I was curious.
yeah or as for me i would be doing just fine till 600-650, then i just crashed hard. but indoors i could run 1:20/21, then toss me in the 800 and 1:54-55 was the best i could come up with. pretty disappointing
I ran 149.7 a week after a 120 TT

With this time trail at 1:47 high pace, he's likely in 1:50 shape, MAYBE 1:49 shape if his legs were heavy from training. If you're going to make the team this year, you have to be in 1:43 shape.
Murphy is probably in 1:42 shape
Brazier probably 1:43
Berian? Haven't heard much from him.
Watch out for Devin Dixon who ran 1:45 at SEC's, he could break through
You got Isiah Harris, 1:45.12 and sub 1:15 at 600m
Then you got a slew of Pro's who are all 1:45 and under: Charles Jock, Brandon Kidder, Shaq Walker, Cazzy Lox, Ryan Martin, Erick Sowinski
Like someone said earlier, has Symmond's even qualified for USA's?
no 1:45.90 or better in the Worlds window for Symmonds
no recorded race under1;47.31 in 2016 or 2017 for Symmonds
Symmonds hasn't qualified for nationals and this thread on his time trial is being hijacked by a high school runner.
This pretty much sums up everything you need to know about Symmonds' season.

This^^^^^
All that's missing is a visit from the Acosta Nation!
The 600 I'd oddly not a good indicator of 800 times.
Just because one can run a 1:18 doesn't mean anything was left in the tank, or that you could ever add a decent 4th 200.
Classic story.
The time from when the leader starts to Nick's finish is 1:20.6 but Symmonds runs 1:20.1-1:20.2 if you time just him.
His splits where 27.5ish-28.5ish-25high
Then he did 4 x 100 on short rest after the 600.
I would put him at 1:48-1:49 right now. If that pace didn't slow its hard to not say he doesn't run 1:19.0 in that 600 but I am not accounting for that, just how he looked the last 200
Didn't Symmonds go from "done" according to experts to winning USAs a couple of years ago?
Many seem to be forgetting that he's probably the fastest 1500 runner of the 800 guys. Strength counts.

LOL!! Symmonds does seem to be enjoying himself. Vids on his Instagram sitting around the swimming pool drinking beer with some ditzy chick. A vid of him diving into the pool titled "Cross Training". A vid of him doing a falling acceleration barefoot that looks like he is moving at maybe 16 second 100m speed.
DAE think Nick is cute?

Not at all. Looked like he was struggling.
Is he sandbagging to make it look like he's through?
Doesn't matter. Berian, Brazier, and Murphy are now on a whole different level. At least he made the Oly final and has a silver from the WCs.

Then what has been his mile times the other weeks? Two data points better than one.
