i'm an 800m guy. how important are plyometrics in my training......i'm also thinking about running the 400 hurdles. i assume plyos play a more important role in the hurdles, but what about the 800?

Makes sense to do plyometrics as long as you have a base of strength training already. Heck, explosive lifts and plyos helped national class Finnish runners improve running economy (they were 5000m runners). I think developing more power would be a good thing.
Hit them Plys more than you ever know your are a Sprinter.
The truth is all runners from 100-26.2 should do some time of plys because that last 200m you need to have the knees up like Micheal Johnson! Believe me Plys will help you sprint better.
i do a great deal of plyos on tues and thurs:
- four different bounding drills over hurdles (5 times each, 5-7 hurdles)
- 3 different types of box jumping drills x 10 (the boxes range from 2-3 ft in height)
- harness drills (pulling another runner on a towel across a gym floor (about 60m)
- uphill running on a treadmill (10 mph at 15% incline x 6, usually between 30-45 sec each)
- weights(2 sets of lunges 55lbs, 2 sets of jump squats 50lbs, 2 sets of step ups 50-55 lbs)
- warmup and cool down are both between 1-2 miles
i am actually doing 800m training to prepare for possibly running the 400H outdoors.
