I have nothing to add to get it started. I just wanted to see if this board was capable of it.

I didn't think so.
Suck,
What did you want to debate?
Put something tangible out there and I'm sure you'll get a response. Although I'm not sure there are many running topics left untouched in other threads...
Have at it - fire away...
Ooooh... oooh, let me try to get one started.
Um, ok, try this:
Which running group/organization is MOST VITAL in producing the USA's next generation of Olympic caliber athletes:
USATF
RRCA
Letrun.com
Military running programs
Other
I assume the next generation is the 2008 and 2012 olympics.
USATF do a good job at the junior level. It is at the college and post college level they do a poor job. USATF forgets about its membership once they reach college age. In my state chaper I am trying to change that by putting on all-comers meets and trying to put on a xc adult series. My vote goes to USATF.
I think that USATF is the organization that will NEED to take charge if we want the next generation of athletes to compete against the best in the world. I really think that a club system is what will be needed to do this.
it has already started somewhat - Farm Team, Wisconsin Runner's, Hanson's, etc. Once we get guys and girls training together, and develope a club system that competes against each other we should see big improvements.
The city of Chicago (for example) doesn't care about a group of runners out in California that are running well because they really have no exposure to them (see EVERY track meet ever on TV....very little coverage) but if you get a team in Chicago with a little advertisement and luck you might be able to build a little following and some excitement. This is the only way to get people involved in running.
More younger kids will want to compete in a sport that is exciting and people actually care about and talk about.
