QL, Psoas,
The thing is that the back isn't isolated. It connects with the a series of muscles forming a kinetic chain right down to the hamstrings. If you strain your back, you put your hammys out of whack compensating. This ends up injuring your hammys. Viscous cycle. The back is just where the injury started. It ends in a thousand other places. I'm not surprised it derailed his season.

Uhhh what's the name of this exercise again??

Speculating on the nature of the injury is laughable, because we can't possibly know the full extent of his injury, even if there's a leak...a spinal leak . What is understood is that anyone who has been impaired by any kind of back issue knows how impossible it is to be at the top of one's game. Which is the kiss of death, or a major contributor to defeat, in a national championship.
I repeat, to all the people who actually believe that their tendonitis is the same as my tendonitis, or their ACL surgery is the same as mine, or their discomfort with heights when climbing a ladder is the same as mine, or their physical reaction to a bee sting is the same as mine:
"Speculating on the nature of the injury is laughable, because we can't possibly know the full extent of his [Cheserek's] injury, even if there's a leak [of info, from within]...a spinal leak [ill-advised attempt at humor]. What is understood is that anyone who has been impaired by any kind of back issue knows how impossible it is to be at the top of one's game. Just amazing. So many of us have Swiss cheese for brains. Some impressive solid material, but also GAPING holes in our abilities to think and reason.
The TIMING of Cheserek's injury is what will keep him out of the outdoor NCAAs. Even "minor" injuries can be ill-timed. He apparently will be good to go again soon...good to train again at an intensity required of an elite athlete. Unfortunately in 2017, simply put, the NCAAs will have come and gone before his relatively minor injury can be put behind him AND his fitness has reached an elite NCAA level.
Please, pretty please, stifle those comments about him ducking his competition by conjuring up an injury!!
There's a certain superstar San Antonio Spur who injured his ankle recently. It's not a serious long-term injury, but the TIMING is horrible.
Hmm...reminds me, in some ways, of a superstar collegiate runner (and Cheserek is/was -- choose your tense the way you wish -- a superstar at the NCAA level)...despite his being 85 years old, or [pick a number out of a hat].
The fact the Che's will never win a Bowerman makes the award rather meaningless and illegitimate. I guess he could win in this year, but giving it to him during his weakest year would serve mostly as a lifetime achievement award, as opposed to celebrate his "stellar" season.
It's too bad we will never see him in an all out 5k/10k race in a college uniform, either. Dude was magnificent! I guess we just get to see how good he'll be as a pro.
He just got a highlight piece on SportsCenter.
Oregon broke Ches for titles..... He did become GOAT but still....
They better repay him with a HUGE Nike contract!!!

Heath took down guys like Farah, Ritz, Kiprop, Birech, and various other Olympic and world champ medalist. No one cares about the Great Edinburgh classic. It's just a muddy XC meet in January that everyone trains through and people run just for media relations and appearance. No one cares about the results.
I am really curious too about the injury because I tore some kind of muscle in my back last week too and it hurts like hell to start running every time but after a few miles into it, the pain is manageable (probably from endorphins).
Am I not supposed to be running at all on it? Because I'm done with downtime, I'll take the pain instead. Just hope it will still heal in a month.
Oregon over raced him as they do a lot of their athletes. He should have gone pro a year or two earlier. Nike will reward him with a contract worth about half what it would have been a couple years earlier as he is now damaged goods.

Thank you, Professor NOP Skeptic, for posting the results of your exhaustive research into the emotional importance of the Great Edingurgh classic. It is so insightful to learn the bottom line that "No one cares about the results."
Sincerely,
Everyone who has run in that muddy XC meet in Januaries past, including Heath, Farah, Ritz, Kiprop, Birech, and various other Olympic and world champ medalists...but who, we now learn from you, don't care about it.
On a serious note I never like to see an athlete get injured or even worse go out with a thud .
But more importantly then that look at what age cheating has done to college it is crystal clear and well confirmed yet not able to be proven in a court of law that he is significantly older than his age states, there are age regulations and division 1 where there are not in other divisions. look at what it he has done to the record books because he is not been honest I know chez and like him a lot but there a lot of athletes who missed out on opportunities because of this !
sad that he's injured I'm not sad that other people get an opportunity to win
Best wishes chez
Ps
Don't go to salidbar!! !!
An exercise I've done that is like magic for the lower back is lifting your foot over and into the bathtub and back a bunch of times. That has gotten me back running very soon at times I couldn't run at all from lower back problems.[/quote]
Curious about this exercise- could you please elaborate?! - a fellow back pain sufferer

Would Tiernan be so good right now without having being pushed so hard by Ches? Same for Knight. It would have been great for Knight and Fisher to have been pushed by Ches one last time.
How important is an NCAA win in 13:30? Knight, Kerr, Tiernan, Fisher... are competing in the NCAA to be pushed to their limit. I'm sure that they are better athletes because of Ches.
Marc Scott who???
Is cheserek eligible to run for the USA in the world champs this summer?

My least favorite kind of cycle
They made the decision long ago to race the kid for points and titles. To be honest, it was never in his best interest and they damn well knew it.
For them to say today they are thinking about what is best for Ches is beyond disingenuous.
