The KHSAA made a firm and final decision to cancel the remaining events at the Kentucky State Championship (boys and girls 4x400m) and stand by the decision to give the team awards based on the scores at the time that the meet was suspended. The girls meet was already firmly decided, but the boys meet was within 6 points.

He said, "Guys, I'm sorry, it just happens," and indicated that this was "divine intervention."
Coaches had worked together and offered 3 different alternatives, with venues, officials, and timing arranged but the KHSAA would not sanction their requests.

The decision cited NFHS Rule 3-2-5, which states that “a meet may be suspended by the games committee, in collaboration with the referee, due to an emergency such as hazardous weather conditions or power failure.â€
