Yeah but there's a huge difference between 50.x and 52.x pace (25.x and 26.x) so that's why people chimed in about him running 25
I could split 52.x easily in high school, I could do it indoors on a 200m track, but getting under 51 took more effort and talent, so that's why people are skeptical

Idiot of the year? Running under 51 is more difficult than splitting 52.X....thanks captain obvious.
No doubt whatsoever that Utah is producing a lot of distance running talent right now. It is very impressive what they are doing, especially at altitude, before the season is even up. No one's talking about the whole world doubting or anyone lying. A 25 second 200m at the end of a mile or two mile is absolutely world class and even the best in the world have very, very rarely ever beaten 25 seconds at the end of any race above 600m. Clinger is absolutely among the elite high schoolers in the country, as clearly is the other guy as well, so they are in the group with Cooper Teare, Sam Worley, Reed Brown, D.J. Principe, and a few others, all with a legitimate shot at breaking four in the mile this year with the right circumstances.
Link to a photo of the 200m to go -
https://ibb.co/buAJTFIts not high quality because its a still photo from a video recording, but you can see on the 200m clock that Hull is hitting 200m to go at 8:31 and Clinger is just barely behind that.
Since they finished in 8:57.9X the most likely final 200m split is 26 low. To watch it live was incredibly impressive. Down the home stretch Hull had the lead and their final kicks were in perfect sync, Clinger wasn't gaining an inch. You could feel the crowd just accepting that Clinger had been defeated. It didn't seem possible but Clinger closed the gap and out leaned Hull all within the last 15m of the race. It was crazy. I hope someone has a high quality video of the finish to post.
Why on Earth does a state with less than 3 million people divide its HS athletics into 5 size divisions?

Bro, you don't even know. By fall semester there are going to be SIX divisions in Utah. It's absolutely insane. 1a - 6a. I think it takes a special group of idiots to come up with a decision like that. There should only be 3 divisions.

Clinger isn't even top 5 in the country.
National xc champ and a 4:02 relay leg don't count for anything?

25 seconds for the last 200m I cannot believe for a second. If that were confirmed, I would believe that these two guys are the best talents in the country by far.
Why wouldn't you believe a 2x Nike XC national champ and 4:02 miler would be one of the best talents in the country, if not THE best?

Why would you find a finish like that hard to believe for a ~4:00 1600m runner? And why is everyone's knee jerk reaction to always think someone is lying? Is that what our world is now? Were you in the stands to watch it?
Perhaps you don't realize how fast that is, covering the last 200 in 25 seconds is very fast for a world class 800. In fact, most high school 2-milers can't run 25 seconds in a 200m sprint out the blocks. Unless you are sitting near the 200m mark, it is hard to know where it is. Most high school meets, everyone sits on the straights and the 200m mark is the least likely place to sit. Some tracks will place a cone on the infield at the lane one 200m start, but without that chances you will not where to start your clock. - Hopefully this helps.
The 800m everyone is dying at the end so the finishes are more of who can die the least.
I was there watching them finish—I still can't get it out of my mind, their finish was incredibly quick. Not just the 200 but the last 100. It wasn't just a kick, but an all out sprint among incredible athletes with a ton of fight left in the tank.
I guess it is possible for a 2-miler with excellent sprint speed in a very tactical race. Ryun and Webb never did it, I don't Mo Farah has ever closed that fast. Btw, you can't go what a kick looks like because a H.S kid closing in 30 seconds looks quick.
Farah has gone sub 50 at the end of a race. Ryun was low 50s a few times.
Some footage of the final 80m. Clinger even has to make a move around a runner getting lapped. Crazy.

Farah has run 50.89. No, don't tell me I'm wrong, go check. It was 50.89. I sincerely doubt Ryun was low 50s. Do you mean 52 or 53?

Didn't Clinger win XC nationals and run 8:44 at Arcadia AFTER running that ridiculous 4:02 relay split? Surely he's better than 8:44 when fresh. As someone mentioned, the NCAA conversion calculator puts him around 8:46 for that race, and as tactical as it was with such a hard finish, the kid has got to be close to 8:40 or better.
Is he going to run another 3200 or two-mile at sea level?
Yeah, Gateshead, England 2013. End of a (relatively) slow 5000 where he closed in 50.89 where not a single person challenged him. He was pretty much doing it just for kicks (he might've even thought it was too easy and wanted to make it worth some training) because no one started sprinting at the end (well at least not nearly as fast as him). He ended in 14:10.00
