If they were identical twins and each ran a 13:20 5k, substituting at half way using the step off to tie your shoelace trick, they'd still be outkicked by at least 30m in the last 500m.

The problem with this thread is Jake has yet to run the qualifying standard (unless his 10k split in Lisbon was 27:45 or faster). So in reality Zane will be the only entry given the lack of 10,000m races these days.

Serious question, can splits from a different race distance be used as qualifying time for another distance?

I think that they used to for 800m/1500m splits in 880y/mile races but now the IAAF issues an equivalent mile standard for 1500 qualification (the 880y as you know is obsolete).

Hah! I'd like to see it, but it ain't gonna happen.
Do they think they can run 26:40? That's probably what it would take to make Mo hurt.
I guess we'll not see it again, but this seems about spot on. 26:40ish Mo would have been hurting enough that it would have been uncertain on the back straight. I think 26:35 with a consistent fairly even race would be what it takes to absolutely beat Mo Farah. No one in the world can do that and I guess we'll never see it now.
Non-factors.
I think that Cheptegai could run 27:35 straight through, but so could Mo.
