Haile Gebrselassie broke the world record on marathon number 9. 10 if you count the one he ran as a teen in Addis Ababa. I think that Kipchoge's next marathon will be number 10 for him. Kipchoge is 2 years younger than Haile was in 2008 too.
Well that's funny, because a rhetorical question should argue your point with an obvious answer. However, athletes HAVE broken the record for the first time after so many attempts. Maybe brush up on some history before you post here. Again, you are trying to act smart here and sound dumber with every post. I guess you just are that dense.

I asked if anybody had broken the world record for the FIRST time after so many high level efforts....Kipchoge has shown repeatedly that he CANNOT break the record.

Another mental midget...

Yep...the first thing I think of when Kipchoge runs 2:03:05, wins a good medal, and runs 2:00:25 in one year is that he CANNOT break the record...

In fact, I really doubt that anyone will ever talk about the marathon WR without caveating that it wasn't as fast as Kipchoge's performance this past weekend. It's like he hung a big asterisk on the actual WR, when we all thought it'd be the other way around.
Which is why it is a farce and a shame for all future real WR holders.
Exactly. I really hope Kipchoge has another good one in him, low 2:02, maybe even sub2:02, in a race so at least a little bit of attention can be taken off this joke.

Kipchoge has FAILED to break the record every time. How is he going to suddenly be able to do it?

Mary Keitany last month?

About as long as who ran that bogus time at Boston, whatever his name was.

It's widely held that marathoners only have so many opportunities in their career to get a WR. The window of optimum performance, weather and course conditions and individual peaking make it a very tenuous event. Eliud may very well have run the best performance out of himself. We'll see soon.
Im afraid that was it for him as well, his duel in the sun. Dug too deep.
I hope I'm wrong

Give me a break.... he's going to destroy the world record in Berlin.
If he doesn't, man that Nike event will lack credibility.
And leave my darling Jane out of this.
but he won't be in that shape unit berlin!

Are you stupid? He's in the best shape of his life. You'd have to be a fool to totally discount his chances of getting the WR.

You can only go to the well so many times. Kipchoge had a chance to break the world record but that sub 2 hour attempt sealed his fate. Eliud will never break the world record now. Could he have? We will never know for sure.
Dude, Kipchoge is only 32 years old! Not even close to his prime yet. This dude still has about 5 years of elite running in him.
Hell, Meb won the Boston Marathon and the Usa half marathon championship at the age of 40. And Meb has never been on Kipchoge's level....
Kipchoge is a freaking machine, with the efficiency of an AI. His training is only rivaled by Kipsang, and he takes ultimate care of his body. Also, he never gets hurt. This man's running is pure ZEN.
He will run 2:02 in the future. So it is not a matter of if, it's only a matter of WHEN will he run it.
and being elite since 2003!!!!
been
Who said he wouldn't break it? The man is 32!
If he wants, he'll break it.

More like 35 but yes I think he will break it also.

This is a separate issue. Somebody else will break Kimetto's record, but it will not be Kipchoge. Kipchoge has had a stellar career. Most of course would say Kipchoge has had a better running resume than Kimetto.
What? Why do you... I don't... Please tell me this a troll.
