"Jogs" = slows down because he went out in 51.

No. Purposely slowed down due to winning by so much

Did you actually see the race, or are you just doing the typical talk out of your @$$ thing?

Assuming he didn't see the race as the only 'jogging' came in the last 10 meters.

Actually, I misread the thread title and thought the OP said that he jogged the last 200m. I was pretty sure he wasn't on his way to 1:42 before he just decided to downshift for the last 1/4 of the race.

He routinely gets out in 50-51 all the time, what's your point? That's not getting out fast for him, that's standard for anybody running 1:43-1:46.

Idiot....if you go out in 50-51 and run 1:46 then you went out too fast and slowing down would be because you died. A 1:43 guy sure, a 1:46 guy, no.

"1:43 guy for sure" Well, it's a good thing that Donavan Brazier is a 1:43 guy
What an optimal split for someone is in an 800m is highly dependent on the runner. Some guys can't even or negative split so they do better getting out faster, while some guys strive off of even/negative split.
For example, Emmanuel Korir went 1:43 today running 52 mid, 51 low. Donavan Brazier, at least now, cannot run a 1:43 that way. He's not the type that can throw down a fast time off a negative split. He went out in 52 earlier this year and only ran 1:47. When he ran his 1:43.55 last year, he went out in 50 mid.
51 is a smooth first 400m for Brazier, the fact that he came back in a 53 and ran 1:44 is completely reasonable. After all, he did just run 1:44 in the open.
Brazier opened the season in a 1:44. He's a young and hopefully still improving 1:43 guy, obviously he's fine going out in 50-51, if he has an off race it happens. A 1;46 guy should never go out in 51 let alone 50. They do, but they shouldn't. Nobody is questioning whether positive splitting is good/bad. 5-6 second positive split is bad.
Brazier opened up the season w/ a 1:46 at the Texas Relays. Obviously a 1:46 guy would probably be going out in 51, not 50. 51-55 is a 4 second positive split. That's probably the most you should positive split in an 800m which is why when I said getting out in 50-51 is standard for a 1:43-1:46 guy. Plenty of 1:46 guys get out in 51. Most get out in 52 low if anything. Rarely do you see them get out in 53.
BRAZIER IS THE FUTURE!!!! next radish

So you're even dumber than your first dumb post implied?
He's not the type to throw down a fast negative split?
What's this based on?
I assume you just started following Brazier ~6 months ago.
In HS, he ran ~1:48 solo several times. Nearly all of those were negative split.
He's not going to hop in a race that goes out in 50 and try to run 52-51. But if he is running by himself, he might... same as Korir.
If anything, Brazier's endurance background would make him more likely to be able to negative split that Korir.
Brazier knew Korir was coming this year so he left the NCAA last year to avoid getting crushed by 3 seconds at NCAAs.

He actually got about the way he likes, obviously he was tired, but I think he slowed down when realized he had the race won. He's definitely in solid 1:43x shape right now.
