actual splits of 52.48/51.25
-> for +ve 2s splits -> ( -1.23 - 2 ) * ( 1/3 ) = -1.08s adjustment ->
1'42.65
the sprints had some high wind so perhaps a little windy
we also need to wait for vid, but 3rd at bell & likely had to run extra on 3rd bend to take the lead
1'42-low is likely right now in perfect race with 0 wind, route 1 with smooth drafting to bell in 50-low
i don't think he needs to aim for 49+ just yet
i still think he is a better 400 runner but 1'42-low is getting close...

This is absurd, the guy claims he is 21 which means he's really 24-25. Has no business being in college. All foreigners should be barred from competing at conference or national championships.

MAGA!
Lickety Split, I was away on vacation when you initially questioned UTEP's abuse of the spirit of NCAA athletics.
I agree with you on several of your points. What UTEP is doing is legal... The way they are doing it is by taking advantage of the generosity of the American collegiate system. There is a definite funnel of the strongest athletes all coming from one area. A scholarship is of huge financial benefit to anyone talented and lucky enough to receive. In any situation, kids and families of the kids that receive scholarships are forever grateful. They are grateful for the opportunity that the U.S. Tax Payer, through the years of State and Federal, and donation monies directed towards building the higher learning institutions that are the envy of the world, has provided.
As you imply, it is hard to overlook the third prong to UTEP's avenue of/for success. That is the direct line of athletes coming from where the coach is from and has other permanent interests. Can you imagine how he must be treated by people in his village and surrounding area who know he holds the golden keys to enabling a U.S. University scholarship that will lead to a world class education, wealth and possible U.S. citizenship? My guess is he is treated very differently than the average villager and reaps the rewards of such. Africa is a corrupt continent. When a person there is in a position of power or potential to provide financial benefit that person is rewarded quite differently then in countries that follow the rule of law as we know it.

He's 21 and has only been running the 800 for 1 year.
LetsRun calls every African an age cheat.
The problem with this is that when some of them have long careers, we then look dumb.
Like Eliud. Everyone said he was 25 when he beat Hicham on the track. That would make him 38 now.
Or Lagat, they said he was old at WSU. Which would have made him nearly 50 now lol.
Same with Geb etc.

Have you looked at kipchoges face? He is over 35 for sure.
Go for it. That'll kick Oregan's butt!
Who cares how old he is? 1:43 is 1:43. And by the looks of it he can probably go even faster. Bottom line, the guy is a medal threat at world's.

Yes, let's talk about this age thing.
Let's look at the top 5 US HS guys in 2011 and how much better they were 5 years later
Austin Mudd HS 1:48.09. College best = 1:47.52
Immanuel Hutchinson HS 1:48.56 College best 1:48.39
O'Neal Wanliss HS 1:49.62 College best 1:48.28
Cameron Thornton HS 1:49.62 College best 1:49.82
Savonarola Watkins HS 1:49.70 College best 1:48.33
1/5 got slower
2/5 improved by 0.60 or less
None improved by more than 1.4 seconds
Yes, age helps in 80% of cases, but it does not turn a 1:48 guy into a 1:43 guy automayically.
Imagine if he went out in a 49 like her wanted to. With 44 second speed that wouldn't be to hard for him. 1:42 at least, possibly 1:41. Who knows, he might have WR potential. Obvious we haven't seen enough from him to think about that yet, but he is increidble, regardless of age, and we defintatly haven't seen his best yet.
Lets not forget he set a world indoor best at 600m. Becoming 1 of 2 men to run sub 1:15 for the distance indoors in his brief initial indoor campaign. 1;42.4 to 1;43.2 is within his grasp easily this season.
Check out the track and field roster at UTEP. Out of 13 distance athletes listed, 12 are from Kenya. The have an additional 15 other foreign athletes from Nigeria, Jamaica, Europe, Canada, etc. Obviously, not many scholarships left for the local kids from Texas whose parents are paying the taxes to fund the state universities.

Trust me - if it was your job to compete with the best in the country and the best high school kids in this country wouldn't touch a full ride to come to your mediocre school in a sh!t hole, you would recruit foreigners too. That is if you want to keep your job. Would I like having to go this route? No...but the only kids who would take those fulls aren't worth those fulls.
- Tell that to the average Texas student that graduates with more than $27K of debt!
- Plenty of HS athletes would take the chance on UTEP if given the opportunity. It's called RECRUITING! El Paso a "shithole"? What?
- Take a look at Boise State football .... how did they solve their problem: California and Texas ... same w/New Mexico football.
They also have a womens hurdler Tobi Amusen 12.63 she is a sophomore who might be good enough to turn Pro, UTEP has 2 Athletes (Emmanuel Korir and Tobi Amusen) with potential to become Pro, impressive.
