Isn't that the second fastest NCAA 800m performance ever (behind Brazier's 1:43.55). So yes, that's kinda fast...

if he was lying, where were his 44+ clockings 4 or 5y ago ???
why wait 'til now to produce runs which wouda earned him $$$ years ago instead of buffalo-herding back home for peanuts ???
He's not a newbie and he's 25. If he were even 22 it would be a better story.
Where did you see he was 25?
NCAA fans,
For the 2nd year in a row, you are getting to witness something truly special at 800m.
Check out UTEP's Emmanuel Korir just accomplished.

2nd place in the race was over 1:50!!
Ridiculous.

gh, owner of T&F says he is chasing 800 time this weekend at Cal with asked for 49+ wabbit !!!
aim is for 1'43+ !
anyone got any other info ?
Editor's note. Initially this was a thread talking about how Korir would be going for a 1:43 this weekend. We've changed the title now that he's accomplished the feat.

5 Kenyans went faster than that last year, so he still needs to cut 0.7 or 0.8 seconds if he wants to make his national team... Pretty tough team...
Calculo was right. Wow. This guy is something else.
A solo 1:43 negative split.
This guy has sub 45 400m speed and can run 1:43 alone with a 51s second lap. Forget NCAAs this guy can win Worlds.

Much easier for him to make the 400m team. He's ranked #1 in the 400m.
4th fastest ever negative split 800m.
Cram split 51.7/51.5 winning commonwealth 86 in 1:43.22
Rudisha split 51.6/51.2 in Nairobi 2010 or 2011 in a 1:42.8.
Kipketer allegedly split 52.3/50.5 in a 1:42.8 in Monaco 97

Yes that may be true but if he makes the Kenyan 800m team then he can win a medal at the WC. In the 400m he will get nowhere.
A negative split 1:43 means he can easily run in the 1:42s by going out harder on the first lap.
He will need 1:42 low to beat Murphy.

I'm sure he means cattle. Buffalo are not something that would be herded in East Africa. Likely, they would herd humans. They are MEAN animals.
Tough? Yes.
Mean? No. Concept doesn't even make sense.

The same gn who banned you?
As for Korir, he might run 1:45.11 this weekend.
Clownshow...you coming back to admit your mistake? And you seemed sooo sure of yourself...pity.

Brazier, Murphy, and Walker are all geniuses going pro early. Harris should have joined them.
For comparison, Rudisha won the WC 800 in Beijing with 54.17/51.67 splits. No way he tries that tactic with a Korir in the race.

That would be a great run. Flip side is that he's older than Murphy, Brazier, Berian. Food for thought.
Let's just say he is. What is the point?
UTEP...
Great run for Korir. He will definitely be a name to watch but can we stop with the Freshman stuff. He is not what one thinks of as a Freshman.
He is listed at 21 which is remarkable and maybe only a couple of years off. It's remarkable, given most Kenyans are listed younger then 21 when they come in as Freshman in the NCAA. Still, Korir is probably older than 21.
UTEP, and the coach there are making a mockery of the NCAA by loading their team with Kenyan athletes that the coach sources from his village in Kenya. I wonder how much time and money is spent recruiting anywhere else? I wonder about the money... the money in Kenya, how much is spent on domestic athletes, how much recruiting dollars are spent flying to the Rift Valley.
UTEP is a state funded school. All involved in this lopsided misallocation of funds should be looked into.
A true 18 or 19 year old domestic Freshmen doesn't stand a chance against plucking world beaters from Africa. Once in a long while a domestic kid like Brazier can compete against someone like Korir being that good that young gets the attention of business.
Other continents' athletes provide somewhat a chance to compete and improve against. Europe and Australia have legitimate birth certification and usually are 1to 2 years older than a domestic Freshman.
Tough being a domestic Freshman in NCAA track and field/XC.
