Where did the real RC Jason go? I have a full mary next month and am waiting for more wisdom.
#31 - Park close to the start line. And bring a calculator. Addition and subtraction are tricky.
Thank you!
I think this is my all time favorite thread on Letsrun.
32. If you are an ultra runner plan to run the course again. Once you reach the finish line turn around and go back against the crowd and run the course backwards, so you will have a 52.4 mile day! Be sure everyone knows that to you "A marathon is a just a warm up."
32. Don't be afraid to go back to back
If you miss your time goal, don't be fooled by those wusses who say you need to let your body recover a day for each mile that you ran before you even start training again. Man up and try again! The truth is that you were already in the shape of your life, and then you ran 26.2, which will produce tremendous additional fitness gains. You should capitalize on those gains as soon as possible by going back to back. If the second marathon isn't going well, fabricate some story about how you got lost after a police officer directed you to make a wrong turn.
33. Start checking the weather forecast 2 weeks before the race. Because you can change it if it's not going to be ideal!!
34. Get a hotel room that doesn't have an adequately sized mini-fridge so that you will have something to blame if you have a bad race.
32. Read the Blog!
I'm sick of posting here. Let me wave something shiny in front of you monkeys. I'll post the link directly to the blog:
As "one of America's foremost running experts" you came to LetsRun, of all places, to share your collection of brilliant tips? Were you trying to advertise your Dummies book on running a marathon? Did you really think this was a reasonable audience for you or your content?
Lots of puffery on that bio. Time for the LRC fact checkers to go to work. This could get interesting.

With three degrees in exercise science, including a PhD in exercise physiology, it’s hard to find a personal trainer with better credentials.
Thats right folks. No one better.

LOL
Some of the real posts are worse than the troll posts...
I hope this thread continues.
I love the sign-off after each tip. I think i will do that from now on. Makes the thread exhilarating!
Stay tuned! More captivating hot garbage coming soon!
To Esteemed Running Master, Dr. Karp:
How many Gu's do I need to eat to break 5:45? On my last attempt (5:57 and change) I ate 14, but I got tired of the cherry flavor after a while and I ended up throwing out #15. I still have the other five left and I'll use them on the next attempt!
You mention the importance of sugar in Tip 2 so I'm sure I didn't have enough.
Do you think I should try a different brand, or maybe I should eat some jelly beans instead so I get a variety of flavors and don't get bored? I was thinking of trying those Harry Potter jelly beans that have vomit and other flavors so I can make it super interesting LOL! Also how many ounces of Gatorade should I drink per mile so as to efficiently hydrate for this effort?

I don't see anything on your resume about ACTUALLY running!!!! Do you run? Have you ever run? Stop regurgitating advice that has been available to runners since Bill Rodgers was running (do you know who that is?)

35. Include every imaginable credential on your bio but not your PRs if they suck!
Stayed tuned for tips.
All of these are so valuable as I approach my first marathon next month. I am nervous and I don't really know how to to handle or what to expect for my first big race.
36. Drive Your Car Instead
If you're looking to cover the most ground as fast as possible, why not invoke the use of modern machinery? We're all busy, and we could all use a little more time on the weekend to get other things done. So go ahead and show up to the starting line in your personal vehicle. Running with your legs makes you sweat, and it can be really hard. If you drive your car, you can cover 26.2 miles in a fraction of the time - and use that saved time to knock out those Saturday errands.
