Mr. Checkett paid $5,000 to run a 4:45:14 Boston marathon and steal a finisher's medal for his wife because they both deserved one.
I have no problem with this.
I am from the Ivy League.
We are faster.
We are richer.
We are smarter.
We stand taller.
We are the best.
We deserve more than average people.
We also deserve a lower 15% tax rate.
No use arguing with this guy. Probably thinks a kid stealing a gold star off the teacher's desk and putting it on his F worksheet is real cute too. Some people just grew up with shitty parenting. We should feel sorry for him.

Sooooooo, here is an honest, legit question.
Why don't more races let a finisher BUY an extra marathon medal? Like if you can prove it is you who ran the race (and finished) and you are willing to pay a fee ($10? $20?) you can have a medal mailed to you a few days after the race. I could see the big races with a lot of charity entrants (NYC, Marine Corps, Boston, London(?), Chicago, etc) doing this. Besides, what do you do with the extra medals anyways? Anyone know?
the extra medals are packed up returned to the vendor and melted down to ensure there can be no unearned medals in the world, ironically many of them are melted down into kids medals like for baseball and soccer
I took like 6 after the Boston marathon this year. I was a volunteer and it was easy to do. im selling them in ebay.
My time ain't free

Stealing the extra medal, while crummy, doesn't peeve me half as much as this reflex he and half the population seem to have to post self-congratulatory atta-boys on social media.
this. +10

How do you even steal a second medal? Don't they put it on you or hand it to you as you come through? Did the guy have to hide his and then double back and pretend he just finished?
I ran it last year and ended up with two medals, unknowingly. I was completely out of it. they put a medal on me, then the blanket. I walked out with the blanket around me and someone put another medal on me, over the blanket. I didn't realize I had the second one on me until I got back to my stuff and started to change.
i felt very bad, but didn't know what to do with the second medal so i just brought it home and they're both sitting in a drawer or a box somewhere.
Can you give us a clue as to who you are so we can start a new thread dedicated to you.
Thanks in anticipation.

So what is the point of a FINISHER medal?
Hell, next thing USAT&F will be selling national uniform kit. Hope it never comes to that.

I'm guessing you've never had a relationship. probably never even kissed a girl (or guy if that's your thing) Time to grow up boy!
I don't need to guess that you are another loser. You couldn't be more wrong. I dated a lot through high school/college, and I've now been married for 7 years. I admit that I spend a lot of money at Tiffany's and I like to buy my wife flowers for no reason, but I've never stolen anything - and specifically I've never stolen anything and given it to my wife. Guess what - because that's not romantic or the way adults behave.
What the hell is wrong with you people? You actually think stealing a finisher medal is romantic?

That was the best, thanks for today's humor.
Haha you need to chill dude.
You described this guy - who raised 5000$ for charity and thanked his wife for being supportive - as a "pure scumbag".
Lower your expectations for the world or, at least, find something a little more important to whine about.

Misogynistic, chauvinistic pig, us girls hate cheats and thieves too you know.
NEVER GO FULL RETARD!

The only people who seem to have been offended enough by a second medal are the hobby joggers, like Derek. No serious runner would be witchhunting this guy. Derek, you went full retard this time.

You didn't, but somehow I can get behind the idea. I mean, at least you're not humblebragging your cluelessness on social media expecting applause for theft

I'm about half way through the 2016 photos and have only found one guy with a medal on their his blanket. I'll report back when I figure out his name.

I handed them out in 2014. There were a bunch left over so a lot of us just took a handful. BAA members can get in big trouble if they sell extras or give them away. I just gave them to a friend who sold them on ebay, craigslist, or to friends and we split the money. It was amazing what people would pay for them.

I know this is a joke, but still, if you are a volunteer, your time is in fact free, by definition.
I never thought I would have a use for my Disney marathon, half marathon and other medals until I realized people (a lot of times Disney collectors) will pay big bucks for Disney stuff that is (for Disney purposes) a very limited production run. Just like their stupid pins. Remember the PT Barnum quote.
Thanks e Bay!!!
