Nope. Murphy is a beats. He came by on the final turn. Rotich put up a fight but MURPHY FTW. Team USA gets gold!!
Clinical from Murphy
anyone got a last lap split? I think Clayton closed the last 200m in either 25 flat or 24 high?
murphy and rotich was a cagey battle at its finest, looked like roughly 56/52 for murphy.
With regards to the body cameras, I think it is a cool idea for post race replays and getting a different perspective (especially if there is a situation like the womens 800 OT final), but using it for in-race commentary is pretty much worthless.
splits?
Kidder was like 1:47-8, Loxsom I think was 1:46 or so
Murphy simply bossed that last leg!

~53.0? Yes it looked like 6:48-high with 200 to go, 7:13-low finish time so ~24-mid for the last 200. He saved a gear for the last 150 for sure

Basically the Americans sat on the Kenyans until the final 100m and tried to kick. The first three kept it close, and Murphy won it.

When Murphy was asked post-race by Ato Boldon if he planned all along to set Rotich up so that he’d take him on the last 200 or if he was improvving all race, Murphy replied, “I had a plan (to go) the last 200 but I was kind of waiting for him to counter it a bit and for him to take off a little sooner but I knew we had good foot speed - it ‘s not the first time we’ve raced. So I wanted to respect his foot speed so I tried tried to go with 250 and then settle in (on the turn). I took a little risk on the corner but It turned out ok,†said Murphy with a smile.
Boldon then asked Murphy for confirmation that he wasn’t surprised that Rotich was able to hold him off on the turn since Murphy was familiar with Rotich’s speed. “I knew at that point I knew it was like raw speed, whoever stayed relaxed all the way through (would win). I just tried to mimic all those times I’m tired in practice and put it to work in the race finally.â€
what an anchor by the pole in that womens 4x4, brought them from quite a bit back. When will GB learn that Ohuruogu has a giant fork sticking in her back and isn't fit to anchor anymore. That cost them the race.
Time Ohuruogu retired. That was just poor.

Yeah I think TBO is done at this point. Fantastic career nonetheless.

I turmed Murphy's last 200 in 24.09. Murphy tried to go at the end of hte final turn but Roticih accelerated. They ran side by side for about 40-50 meteres until about 65 meters remained and then Murphy pulled ahead.

murphy is obviously going to get the headlines (and justifiably so), but for me the key to that race for the US was kidder. He went toe to toe with an Olympic finalist (and 1:42 man) in Alfred Kipketer and not only held his own, but he actually passed off in the lead and had the fastest split of the entire race.
These announcers have made several mistakes in the last few minutes. The guy (not Dan O'Brien) called Clayton Murphy "Nathan Murphy" after the US won the 4x800, then he called Natasha Hastings "Sanya Hastings."
Also not a mistake, but something I found funny. They were handing out silver and bronze medals last night and Dan O'Brien said (paraphrasing) "I didn't know they gave out anything for second and third. I only won gold."
And on a global stage, it's true. Gold at Worlds in '91, '93, '95 and Olympics in '96. Gold at World Indoors in '93. No other international medals.
