Rojo... c'mon, bro. Seriously?

Tom Derderian is the premier source for everything Boston Marathon (perhaps better than BAA). He has written several volumes on the history of the event. "Boston Marathon" published by Human Kinetics in 1994 covers all races from 1896 to 1993 and can be used as a source for questions as this.
Yes, the factual information is excellent, but his hyperbolic writing style makes it hard to read. The facts make it more than worthwhile.
It took almost half an hour before someone came up with the right answer. Then the trolls poured on...
Hi rojo
As I recall, yes, he was trying to run fast from the start and paid for it dearly on such a warm day. If he'd had tougher competition he might not have felt like that was such a good idea.
I posted yesterday on Boston the documentary that premiered Sat night. I understand that it will be shown around the country on Wed this week. In it, the 1985 boycott by top runners is covered along with the entrenched in all matters of the BAA's Will Cloney.
Rojo, although your team was probably out straight this weekend, perhaps one of you could provide a review of the film for these pages. It can provide a great guide to gain insight to the race's rich history. Tom D's book is the best but of more interest to some of us only. The movie will add depth.
Rojo,
For several years this website has written articles talking about a potential American Champ.
Desiree this year.
Shalane on a couple years.
Kara on at least one year
Deena on at least one occasion.
So that means that your website has on FIVE occasions written an article on the last woman was Rainsberger in 1985. And you never knew that was a boycotted non prize money year? Yes that is ignorant to the history of the sport.
"It actually speaks volumes to how well I understand running".
OK. How exactly?
Looked like a "war of attrition" to me. I can understand what happened in '76 when the winning time was 2:20 under INFERNAL conditions. Not all that of a strong field either due to the lack of big $$$ ? Who knows!

The weather was fine - the high was just 69 degrees and winner Geoff Smith went out in a blazing 62:51. He was still able to win despite walking in the 19th mile.
Rojo, how many times do we have to go over this before you get it?
69 degrees at noon, with the Sun directly overhead, isn't the same as 69 degrees in the shade or 69 degrees in the early morning or evening.
The main reason is easy to figure out. Except for the top two, none of the rest were elite marathoners. And Tuttle was well past his competitive years.

While Rainsberger did not win prize money, she has certainly cashed in as the "last American woman" to win Boston. (Or as I like to say under my breath when she is introduced "in the slowest time in the professional era").
And her daughter has cashed in on her mom's genetics.

but was it really THAT slow relative to what the WR was at that time?
I mean if someone posts a 2.08-2.09 time today we dont say its a whoppy time even tho it is compared to the WR.
I'm sorry, did I catch a "whoppy" in there?
Yes, and he's using the word correctly. What's the matter with you?
