Without looking up names, how many people can you name with better credentials than OT win, Olympic Bronze, and Boston 2nd? Certainly not in the conversation for best in the world, but I would say 'good at the marathon' if asked.
There's a whole other level (or two) better than what GR has achieved so far. Maybe he has it in him, maybe not, I'm just saying I am still waiting for him to show he is better than, say 2:08 max, which these days is hardly even notable. Considering his 10K credentials, he still has much to prove.

No? So did you think he started running on US teams when he was 13?
(I thought he was at least 40, surprised he's not older he's been around so long)
Good point
6 out of top 10 from USA

Rupp is a great runner. His problem is that he is one of the least likable great runners and he is coached by someone equally unlikable. So people try to minimize great performances like today's.
Absolutely. Rupp is loathsome and is coached by someone who makes Rupp look charming.
And it's a bit heartbreaking to see Meb finish knowing this is his final rodeo. He's been so good for so long and such a great representative of the sport and the USA that you never thought this day would ever come.
So Rupp has an Olympic bronze and a 2nd at Boston. He could retire right now and be one of the best marathoners in US history. These achievements are even more impressive in a day and age when the top westerners are always competing against an army of East Africans bringing with new talent, as compared to the hey days of Shorter, Rodgers, and Alberto.
I don't care much for Rupp, but anybody who thinks differently than the truth I just dropped is either a hater or idiot.

Why is men celebrating as if he won? Bit over the top. Last marathon perhaps?
Where have you been? Meb has clearly stated that his last competitive marathon will be at NY and that this Boston Marathon is a celebration.
Meb coming in, looks happy, but tired/awkward. 2:17?
Bowing to the crown, doffing cap. Signum Crucis.
Kiplagat looks fresh as a daisy with her trophy, but winners usually do.
Link says she has 4 children!!!
*Meb
Still no Emmanuel Mutai...
The Chinese feed is now showing Galen heading to a nearby high school track for some 400's
rojo, you say Kirui in the section header on the preview page, but the text is about Korir (then the next section about Wesley Korir).Kirui =/= Korir, right? This is an honest question, I find Kenyan names confusing. Thanks LRC, big ups to whomever found the Chinese stream, treadmill guy 4 life. The worst part about the marathon day is going to work once the race is over (west coaster).

Casual fans I bet more are even more are rooting for him. American factor.
But I assume everyone roots for the Dallas Cowboys too.
No, we don't, because the Cowboys suck.
That may be but its kind of silly. What do we really know about anybody in the lead pack? Kirui may be an awesome guy. Who knows?Great runs by US runners today.

Guys, times do not matter at this point. All three races were slow for everyone. Rupp was close to a 2:06er today, place is all that matters at this point.
It matters a lot because Rupp only has a few more marathon races left in his career. He has a lot of miles on the legs.
He has an Olympic silver, not bronze - you know your stuff!
I hope "The Chinese Treadmill Guy" becomes one of the great and long lasting jokes of LRC.
"You were struggling worse than the Chinese Treadmill Guy on that last set of intervals"
Let's make sure this happens!
Kirui ran 26:55 as an 18 year old. Wow, imagine what he could do under AlSal's futuristic Rocky IV Soviet style training program.

Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
