Bizunesh Deba, Caroline Rotich, and Atsede Baysa have all dropped off the lead pack.
Hasay still there.
This race probably couldn't be going better for Des right now.
Damn, Deba got dropped . She's a 2:19 marathoner.
Something must have physically happened.
If I have to watch the sport bean commercial one more time......
I just have one question for the commentators:
Ummm... ever heard of Jordan Hasay?

Ah, good point because it's by race time, not chip time.
What about the men though? Can some no-name athlete earn 10th place money with a great run (in theory at least)?
Actually, what about the women running in Tokyo (and maybe Berlin) where everyone starts together?
Sure, a non-pro man could certainly (theoretically) win prize money, since he's starting at the same time (10:00 AM) and the first corral for non-elites is just a few feet behind the elite corral. (Chances are, though, that if you are even a 2:22 or faster guy, the BAA likely let you start in the elite corral.)
I would think in any race where people are starting at the same time, anyone would be eligible for prize money. That's the beauty of road racing.
Lead men pass 6 miles in 29:25, which is 2:08:32 pace. Emmanuel Mutai is the one leading the pace, Rupp and Meb near the front as well. Jared Ward and Luke Puskedra further back as the lead pack is breaking in two.

There was an incident a few years ago about Kenyan non invitees running money eligible chip times and were denied due to their non invited status...depends on the race.
This is wrong in so many levels..
They basically say that they will give money to these ±20 athletes that were invited, all other will get nothing.
WBZ coverage in MA is pretty good. Tony Reavis and Shalane Flanagan, and they use picture in picture during the commercials.

YOU HEARD IT FIRST HERE FOLKS, RACE IS GOING UNDER TWO HOURS TODAY!
I think in a race which will be run in 2:08, you could safely say almost 2 hours of it will be under 5:00 pace. No? Maybe a few 5:05's sprinkled in on the hills.

on point my man, on point.
Interesting to note that the two women pushing the pace in early miles -- Atsede Baysa and Buzunesh Deba -- have now completely dropped off and are nowhere to be seen.
Is it me or is one of the NBC announce team pronouncing Rupp first name as GaleM? Lol
They're the same ones he wore in the Olympics, they're disguised (color scheme etc.) to look like Streaks. Multiple other runners have the new Nike 4% vapors on in the traditional white/black.
Breaking. The sub-2 hour marathon has just been broken in the wheelchair race.

Thank you. Now that I've seen them a couple more times I did notice they don't look like the Streaks as much.
Ah, thanks. I thought I read somewhere once that only the elites can get the money, which is why I asked.
1:18:05 for Hug's win. Unofficial World Record? Do Pushrims adhere to the same record eligible course standards?
Go rupp go! wrote:
half-tights for Galen? Interesting...
No holes in his shirt either. Anybody have a hat count.
Who is in the lead pack in the women's race? How are Linden and Hasay looking?
....and they missed the mens elite pushchaur finish....
Great timing, NBC
