Everyone is talking about 60 degree temps. That's a little warm but not awful. HOw come no one is walking about the huge tail wind?
17mph WNW
I mean WSW is a total tail wind by 17mph from that direction should certainly help compensate for the 60 degree temps.
I think the high winds will be more of an annoyance than a benefit. If it becomes more a tailwind then it may negate any cooling effect too. I see the big problem being the sun. Not much shade on the course and that mid day sun is going to fry.

In the history of the earth have more people been worried over temperatures in the 60s? 5 degrees cooler and the conditions would be 100% perfect! Last time I raced it was under 40 degrees with 30mph HEADWINDS. Still not weather worth discussing but possibly noteworthy.
This weather will be a non-factor. When did everyone in new england become so soft when it comes to temps in the 60s and a little sun? Wear a hat! Drink water at each of the 20+ water ("aid") stations . And go running in a track suit everyday between now and then (as you should have been for the last 7 days).
The Boston Marathon has become a complete joke. It truly is the hobby jogger olympics. It's only friday morning and I've already seen 100+ sexually frustrated 40 year old men, 10 years into the post-nuptial shutoff, jogging in their purple marathon jackets with their past years' finisher medals jingling in their shorts where their balls should be.
LETSRUN POSTER 1: What are galen rupps chances of winning?
LETSRUN POSTER 2: Meh, he's garbage. He was only 3rd at the olympics. What a loser.
LETSRUN POSTER 3: DNF
LETSRUN POSTER 2: Have you seen the weather forecast? Definitely not ideal.
LESTRUN POSTER 1: It says 60 degrees with a slight tailwind.
LETSRUN POSTER 3: And sunny! God have mercy on our souls!
LETSRUN POSTER 2: Ugh. There go my chances of beating my 2:55 PR. Oh well there's always next year.
LETSRUN POSTER 1: ...

Wind in Hopkinton 10am. 18mph predominantly West. Tailwind. Could veer to south.
Wind in Boston 12pm. 19mph WNW.
PRs will be set if this holds. Nearly the same setup as 2011. You heard it here first.
Looks like the weather is warming a bit into the mid-60s and wind has moved back to the West which should produce a nice mostly tailwind. I'm with you that it's a PR day. Not 2011, but good enough.
For the elites, mid 60s with low humidity should be nothing. For a fat f*ck like me it will be a little hindrance but I plan on dumping water on myself a dozen times to try to cope.
Boston is keying up to look like a decent day to run....it could always be better but it looks like a pretty reasonable forcast.
Last year same temperature with an annoying head wind.... this year same temperature or similar with a tail or cross.
I'm pretty excited to not fight the wind... the temperature looks manageable.
It's never perfect but I'm getting stoked.

Doesn't look to bad. Could be fast if the wind moves
To the south a bit and clouds come out.
53degress in 2011 and 15mph wind from south west.

Its 80 the day before, lets hope it really does cool off!
I don't know why so few runners seem to be educated about humidity when it comes to weather conditions. For me, humidity is way, way more of an issue than air temperature. So--the one number you need to look at, outside of air temperature and winds, is:
DEW POINT!
Please get that term into your noggin. It's what tells you how humid the air is, and when it's high it really sucks to be out there.
The term "relative humidity" is often mistakenly used (understandably) to talk about how humid it is outside. But relative humidity is a more complex concept that doesn't really tell the average person anything useful. It's all about the dew point!
Here's the scale. Memorize this and you'll know how much humidity you're dealing with on any given day:
Dew point over 70: Awful, stifling humidity. It's where PR's go to die.
Dew point 60-70: Very uncomfortable humidity, still very difficult for runners.
Dew point 50-60: Slightly humid, less of an issue unless the temperature is high
Dew point 40-50: Comfortable
Dew point below 40: Fabulous
And the dew point forecast for Boston Monday: High 30's.
That doesn't mean temps in the low 60's and sunshine won't be an issue. But the lack of humidity will definitely help.
helpful, thanks
As long as we don't run it on Sunday, we should be okay.
Looks like the forecast is clouding up a bit which is a nice change. Won't seem so warm.
Heres the deal for Boston.
The 80 degree day prior the pavement holds the heat unless it rains.
Temps cool slightly as you head towards the city ( water front).
Winds or breezes during keep you dry and you don't show or feel the fluid loss, sweat. Drink on the course.

Still not a 2011 PR day, but a no excuses day. Low to mid 60s, low dewpoint, low humidity, strong tail/crosswind.

You joking right? It is a 15mph tailwind, low humidity and temps only very slightly too high. A big PR is there for anyone who runs remotely intelligently.

Not a straight tailwind and it is more than very slightly too high temps. I think a no excuses day is the perfect description.
Most of the weather services are now reporting highs of 70-71 along the course. Weather Underground is the outlier with highs of 66-67. Wind direction is WNW, pretty favorable. Not worried about it, overall looks like a good day but would be happier if WU is right.
