I don't get it.
You either run in the front or the back on a track. Doing the math, running on the outside costs you an extra 4 meters a lap.... times 8 laps is an extra 32 meters. Roughly 6 seconds. And she lost by .07 seconds.

She is going to CAL, not the brightest.
I thought Geometry was a 9th grade course. Look, maybe this is a personal problem, but it's just frustrating to see someone screw up strategically in a sport which has nearly zero strategy.
Talking about the Arcadia race

He was great in the Allman Bros
She's inexperienced. Isn't this just her 2nd season of track? Hopefully here coaches will point that out. I watched the live feed and she wasn't all the way into lane 2, but hung on Lane's shoulder the entire way until the last lap. She'll learn.
Might as well point out the top two went out in about 33-flat for the first 200, which by itself cost both of them a lot more than anyone running in the outside of lane 1 the whole way.
Eyeballing the splits:
70.5
77.5 (2:28)
75 (3:43)
76 (4:59)
77 (6:16)
77 (7:33)
75 (8:48)
69 (9:57 -- 9:24 @ 3K, so last 200 was also 33)
Pretty impressive off wildly erratic pacing for the second week of April.
No it didn't
Would've cost them both to start w a 37. Watch the race again.

Those splits were perfect under the conditions. Otherwise they'd have been run over by the other girls.
One way or the other that is a huge win and PR for Claudia Lane...
Claudia = the Next Big Thing in HS distance running (along with Ping perhaps)
Watch the race.
She is occasionally on the outside shoulder, but on most turns, she tucked in and ran either the line or just barely wider.
She never ran a whole lane wider.
Also, she seems like a good runner, but she runs horribly flat footed.
Not sure if we're watching the same race my friend. Although the camera angle at times does give the illusion of what you're describing, the only time she really tucked in behind Claudia was the last lap.
Also, my calculations are already based on Brie running a half lane wide, not a full lane. A full lane would be an extra 7.67 meters per lap.
I really don't think something this simple needs to be coached. The only explanation I'm currently entertaining is the two are BFFs and couldn't wait until the race was over to have a nice chat.
I just watched the race, and I'm sorry but with all due respect to Brie - she's a great runner with tons of potential - that was just plain stupid.
The LRC pundits scream don't lead, don't lead, don't lead!
Then when someone wins from the front they scream, ran too wide, ran too wide, ran too wide! or some other similar nonsensical babble.
Since nobody actually said that, I don't think you read this thread. Glad you're having a good time though. I know they don't let you out of that padded room often.

It's almost like they think there's more than two options...
Great race by both ladies. Yes, Brie's strategy probably cost her the win. But respect to her for sharing the workload and just matching up. It was almost as if they planned to work together, but then one would assume they would swap the lead. Nevertheless, amazing race.
Official splits here.

Last 200:
Lane: 35.774
Oakley: 35.876
Schadler: 35.610
Hill: 34.287
Reinhart: 38.071
Both their forms are terrible

It's not a big deal to run on the outside in a slow race or for a lap for or 2, but Oakley needlessly run to much of that race on the outside.

Wow couldn't agree more. Oakley's is very very bad.
