Theres a runner on my team who is fairly new but he cant start out fast in the 1600. He always splits crazy like his last race. 83,83,78,76. I asked him about it and he says it feels like his legs just cant move faster. It is really holding him back. His first race went 81,81,79,79. He is clearly in better shape from the splits in his second race and I know he is in shape for 5:11ish but he can't seem to hack it. I even made him do a longer warm up, no difference, slow start and a really quick finish. How do you fix this? He could benefit from going out in 76-77 and just going even split.
