Sumgong's made her money and they'll be plenty to take her place.
She'll be living like an empress compared to her fellow country men and women for the rest of her life and probably so will her immediate family, so mission accomplished.

I am not as pessimistic as others in this thread. This is bad news but it will encourage more testing. I don't think all of the top runners cheat. I do question the high number of excellent half marathon and marathon times. It's not that no one can run low 59 or 2:05 clean, but it is suspicious when so many runners can do it

Sad. Ruined the upcoming season for me and I don't know if I'll bother watching anymore. A lifetime ban is what she deserves. I hope she at least rats out the real perpetrators because both Jemima and Rita aren't smart enough to do this by themselves. Hopefully this time we'll see real convictions, permit revocations and deportations.
Silver lining is that the OOC testing seems to be working. Shame about the greed and, again, casting a pall over Kenyan athletics.
Of course, those simple, rural, hard-working folk aren't smart enough to engage in systematically rorting the system. But the flash Euro managers certainly are.
I am genuinely sorry that you have been let down by one of your idols. They do have clay feet sometimes.
all top kenyans and ethiopians dope.hell, all top athletes do,no matter where theyre from,to get to where they are.they have no choice.its the only way to be competitive.
One more thought: She's the first Kenyan olympic gold medalist to go down, right? This could be the IAAF sending a strong signal to Kenya that they have an eye on them not overstepping realistic bounds after that incredible 1-6 place domination at XC Worlds the other weekend.

Just heard on BBC Kenyan Sumgong tests positive.
Can the IAAF, IOC and race organizers please ban Kenyan distance runners (800m through to Marathon) from all competitions for 10 years please. Include Ethiopia as well as you not testing there either. Ban any agents or coaches of Kenyan Ethiopian athletes for 5 years and ban any athlete of any nationality who spends long periods of time training in Kenya or Ethiopia for 5 years.
Offer the option for Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes and managers/coaches to come forward and confess with a reduction in the ban from 10 years to 5 years if the evidence they give is reliable.
Can the IAAF also please release all of Paula Radcliffe's blood test data to demonstrate that they do not have favorites that they cover up for.
If the IAAF, IOC, and race organizers do not enforce any of these measures can they please stop wasting millions of dollars on drug testing and just say the sport is not clean and spend that money more usefully elsewhere (infrastructure/healthcare development projects throughout the world).
At least Mo and Paula are clean so there's some good in the world.

Thanks, some pretty big names on that list.
Came back after a few years to post to say that this sport feels like it's dead or dying. Recently I've been watching the Freeride World Tour on youtube. Great athleticism.
Reign your grief in there little man. Centro has neither run fast enough, nor had a suspicious progression to cause your Kenya social justice emotions to get their panties in knots.
This also means that Sumgong will be possibly ruled out for the WMM Grand prize. This makes Florence Kiplagat (doper?) the winner.
what happened with didoper and mama jama? Truckloads of epo found, yet a couple of days of attention and then poof, no one talks about it anymore and its not in the news anymore.
i feel like a dick for calling her didoper but it's still all fishy to me brehs
One of the less surprising positives. The training group and the earlier prednisone positive were reason enough to be rather skeptical about her - any personal likeability does not factor in this.
I still believe there are plenty of Kenyans perfectly capable of running 2:07-2:09 clean. But when everyone of your peers is suddenly running 2:04, the choice becomes stark: join in the fun or go home poor.

If this holds up, Dr. Gabriela Rosa, lied to my freaking face. It reminds me ofa conversation I had with David Epstein a few years back after he helped expose Lance Armstrong as a fraud. I said, "What was the most surprising thing you learned?"
He replied along the lines of, "That a grown human being can stare you straight in the race and very convincingly tell you something with great passion that is a total lie."
I now know what he's talking about.
Your first time sweetheart?
She should be sued by every sponsor and race that gave her money to get their money back and criminally charged as well as every agent and coach making money off her and her performances.
I don't know why the IAAF and WADA are afraid to go to that length when people are caught like this?
I will not return as a fan to the sport until they start taking such measures. I have absolutely zero interest in professional sports from now on.

you guys are on some infowars conspiracy ish lol.
People cheat in all of life's endeavors. This includes sport which includes running. If someone is caught cheating it doesn't mean everybody in that sport also cheats. The Kenyan's are great runners and what makes them great is their capacity for hard work and complete commitment to the sport.

They probably leave it up to the sponsors and races to pursue these monies... Any one know of past attempts to claw back funds from previous Kenyan dope positives?
