I think some of my fav Kenyan and Ethiopian contemporary greats have a lot of insight into performances, their body, etc. and these guys have many experiences. Examples
Thomas longosiwa
Longtime fast runner, got tripped in daegu, then medals in London
Dejen
Setback
Not much track success since that great buildup to London
great at Carlsbad lol
Eliud kipchoge, track prodigy
After early successes nothing too spectacular
Had a rough time at that xc race versus
Has found something great with his marathoning and lifestyle
Kenny b
Had a rough time at world xc Mombasa
Dominated world xc otherwise and track, golden league, etc
Petered out a bit after Beijing and Berlin, due to Injuries, whatever
He really was great
Bernie had an injury in 2009
Now after a number of years,
He seems to Have found his stride on the roads
I see all these guys as having put in work at many types of disciplines: road racing, xc, middle distance, track long distance, etc
So I think kipchoge is wise. He is in proximity to both Kenyan long distance road runners where the money is as well as the traditional and ongoing long standing track running scenes. I think that gives him extra experience and training insight for staying power over the one hit wonder road racers or track guys fading into obscurity.
The Nike stuff is tweaks of the base from his training and lifestyle setup and life experience. But I do agree he could bomb out and suffer metabolic and physiological injury and setback. Or he could pioneer some new state of training and performance. He certainly seemed very healthy, wise and full of vitality in that recent video.
